When I saw the 235i interior in person, it's definitely MUCH nicer than the 1. Comes at a price though. Depends on what you want in a car which I think ultimately is the root of how many people here feel about the 1er vs 2er argument.

I think the 2 is great. The interior is nicer, the styling is less polarizing and the performance is there. I had one chase me down on the track last week, it looked well composed in the corners and had less roll than my car. I wouldn't trade my car in for one but I would buy one if I were in the market.

Ha, wow. "Most boring vehicle I've ever driven"??? Unfathomable. Agreed, though - different strokes!!

I think it all boils down to how the e46 m3 and even e9x m3 are driven. On the street the 135i feels faster due to the torque but take the m3 on the track and there is no dispute it is a brilliant car.

I like it a lot. I have envy regarding the activity of the 2er forum, the plethora of new reviews, cosmetic and performance parts to be released for it and of course all the mods the community will develop.

When I first heard they were cramming the N54 biturbo monster in a small 135i, I was blown away and couldn't believe it. Obviously. the N55 that replaced the N54 offers similar performance but I am not blown away by it's use in the M235i.

I WILL HAVE M2 ENVY IF I DON'T HAVE ONE!

COBB stage 2+ doesn't just "feel" faster on the street, but I know what you mean. ;P

I drove a 235 and its not as engaging as the 1er, it does have a better ride and more grip but that's it. The steering, braking and road feel are way better in the 1er.

Better is in the mind of the beholder so enjoy your "better" 135is while I enjoy my not quite as good 135is.
You just need to practice more with the clutch.

Every time a new model come out owners of the previous car bash it. Every car forum I have been on I have seen this. Nobody wants to admit they don't have the best option anymore. The m235i is a very nice car and is basically a tweaked and improved 135i. I have little doubt it is a better car. I personally am not going to pay the difference between my cars trade in to buy a m235i though. That is my opinion and other people have different oppinions. I do think that for whatever reason a lot of people act completely emotionally and irrationally when a new model comes out or when someone else wants to brag about their car. There is not just one good car and liking your own car should not mean you disrespect every other option in my opinion.

This is so true.

I don't get why it has to be so polar for so many people. Both cars are rather similar and for us who enjoy the e82 should really appreciate the m235i. I don't get how some people can love the 135i and HATE the m235i.

It's even worse on m3 post. F8x vs e9x. So many people over and over commenting on steering, engine feel, chassis and other technical aspects of a car they have never driven.

Nope. I think its too clean. The 2 series doesnt have the character and funk of the 1 series IMO I just think its too business.

Its a good car and I might pick one up as a DD if the price comes down. When I bought my 135 they started at 35K.

You do realize the S54 has the most torque per liter of any NA car other than the 458 right? And the M3 is lighter. And doesn't look like a chick's car...

Yeah, I've owned an S54 Z3M roady, an S54 Z3M coupe, an S54 M3 coupe, and an S54 Z4M. I'm very familiar with the engine (I even blew two of them up thanks to wonderful BMW bearing engineering). I'm comparing the output to a COBB Stage 2+ N54. At that point, there is no comparison. Not to mention the awful rasp of that engine.

Just a few things. Held both SCCA & NHRA competition licenses going back into the 1960's & got reasonably competent with a clutch. Successfully ran a 4MT big block '67 Corvette at Englishtown in the brackets well into the late 1980"s. Of course in this case that is irrelevant because of the BMWPCD setup.

The BMW Performance Center Delivery was an apples to apples compare. You drive their cars & to keep expenses down they are all AT's, no money shifts.

The 135is stock is a slower car than an M235 around the track period. IIRC BMW Senior Vice President Klaus Froehlich said the M235 will run with the 1M at the 'Ring. The 1M performance envelope was the target for the M235.

The 135 is a nice car but things move on & as was mentioned above the guys with the old cars tend to whine a lot when a new model comes out.

When I was young and foolish I loved turbos and now that im old and foolish I like inline's. My current 11' 128i-i6, 01' 325i-i6 and 93' Acura Vigor-i5 have been my garage since late 90's. So the thought of a turbo does not get me all envied on the 228i, M235. I just know what the blown turbo cost me once upon a time. Never had an issue ever with an inline 5/6. I add I'm out of the market for now, these times they are a changing so I may see in 2020 what the 2'er has to offer.

Hey BV! Long time!
Did you really get an i3? Did ya post some pics somewhere?

Back to the post. Interesting how my posts always bring in an argument about an M3 somehow.
Good points all. As a couple of people have pointed out, a lot of a question like this is new car envy, and that was my point really. It is a bit of a letdown to not have the newest and greatest toy anymore. Even if, as I truly feel, the newest isn't necessarily the greatest.
Guess I will have to be satisfied with owning a future classic. Hey! Just watched an episode of Wheeler Dealers where they sold an 80s Ford hatchback POS for $7k, that's gotta mean my 1er will be crossing the the block on the final day of Barrett Jackson someday!

I really did get one. Well my dad did anyway but we carpool so I consider it partially mine too. Haha

Here's the only shot I have so far http://i.imgur.com/NQoIU2e.jpg

Like I said earlier I think they made the 2 look like a modern BMW - its all business. And that doesn't excite me. I like stupid, funky cars. They're just more fun and they leave you with a happy feeling.
