Picked up my 135I

And I'm so in love. Have a question. Best motor oil? Has anyone ever used Royal Purple?

Most people go with Castrol Edge fully-synthetic 5W-30.

There are three widely available inthe US BMW LL-01 approved oils available.

1. Mobil 0w-40
2. Castrol edge with syntec 0w-30
3. Pennzoil ultra euro 5w-40

Listed in order of easiest to find (Walmart) to most difficult to find. For warranty purposes, I would only run an approved oil. There are other oils that work well, but these three have met or exceeded BMWs specs and can go the distance of the full oil change interval of 15k. If you aren't under warranty and change your oil ever 5-7.5k, then the approval is less important. But with m1 at Walmart for $25 per jug, it's tough to argue against BMW approved oil at that price.

It's nice isn't it? What type of car did you come from? I came from driving big Toyota sedans and what a difference. I didn't think I would enjoy driving as much as I do now. Problem is all I want to do is throw money at it.

Stick with the LL-01 approved oils OP.

That had to be one hell of a transition.

M1 0w40, the other grades (5w30 etc) are not certified.
Also BMW oil is actually priced reasonably for a full synthetic.

I have been using M1 0w40 in my turbo cars for the last 12 years with good results. You can get the 5 quart jug at Walmart for $25, sometimes less from locals when Mobil has the rebate. It's LL-01 cert. and readily available.
