Mickey Thompson make a 245/45/17 you can use with a pair of cheap style 68s for drag racing...

I've done a few 1.84 60' times on Kumho KU39 265/35/18 tyres on factory wheels.

They're sturdy enough to drive to and from the track on, so you don't have to change tires there ... and they don't require much of a burnout to clean/heat up. If you have more than 300hp at the wheels, it'll probably be the single biggest impact you can make at the track without spending a ton of money. And it's the best money you'll ever spend on the "butt dyno." One good launch on sticky tires will change you forever However, be prepared to break shit. When you race on sticky tires, if the car hooks, eventually something will snap ... it's just part of the game. |

If the tires stick, the car will likely bog, maybe even stall if you launch it that low. You're not going to get much out of the tires at that RPM.
Start where the car makes peak torque, if it still spins, back it down 500rpm each pass until it sticks. If it dead-hooks, raise it 500rpm until it almost breaks loose. The launch RPM is totally dependent on the track conditions and can even vary hour to hour during the day. |
