I'm just starting out with the normal stuff (aka wheel and suspension mods), then I'm painting it Atlantis Blue and figuring out what to do with the S65 engine sitting in my garage. The sky is the limit with this project.

I love that thing! The RS4 is a keeper until it starts having electrical issues. It's one of the best cars I've ever owned, plus I love the dirty looks I get from the M3 crowd.

Damn. That's my project! I made a cost analysis spreadsheet and everything. Damn my not have 50K to spend on my 1

Seriously welcome. I've seen your RS4 build and it's pretty wicked. And lol at this thread. But IMO Laguna Seca Blue is a better blue than Atlantis.

50 grand? I picked up a fully dressed engine out of a junked M3 for a little less than $5000. Hopefully the fabrication, transmission, and ECU stuff doesn't run me over $25,000. I also want to get 6 or 7 track days and about 10,000 miles in the car under my belt (my standard before I get serious with modifying a car) before I decide if the engine swap is worth it. So I've got plenty of time

I'd post them if had any. I suck with a camera, so I don't bother taking pictures. The pictures in my BMW garage have all been taken by other people and they're all I have.

To be fair. I have some additional costs compared to you. My plan also involved picking up a front and mid section clip of an M3 and then parting out what I didn't gut. So I'd recoup some costs. I was going to modify the engine before it went in the car with forged internals and whatnot.

But hey, that's just a pipe dream your car is gonna be real and that's awesome man.

Wheels and Tires from Eric at Supreme Power:

Advan RS-D's 19x9 +22 front (PSS 265/30) and 19x10 +20 rear (PSS 295/30)

Now it's off to get a set of Ohlins TTX's (or Moton MS) to aid in the battle against wheel gap.

How is the fitment with that wide a tire? Tried the PSS 295/30-19 (from my other car - ET25 offset) and they seem to big for the rear.

Good question. I haven't seen the car, so I don't know how well it fits. I plan on getting the fenders pulled regardless if the wheels fit or not, but I'll see if I can get the guys at the dealer to take a few more photos of the fitment.

Let me know if you get a good deal on Motons. Perhaps we can do a mini gb and massage the price further down.

I like how you roll.. haven't physically seen the car.. yet modding it out!

Welcome RS 4 and 1///M brother! Subscribed to see the progress of your VO beast, wonderful start so far!

Great to hear 295 PSSs fit with no rubbing issues, I barely squeezed them in 275/30/19 guise in the RS4, should be called Super Squares! Was planning myself to perhaps slap on the 1///M the rear 265 PS2s up front and do 285/30s in the rear. That, 10mm spacers, and the Motons ought to cure fendergapitis!

I'll keep you posted on the motons. John going to have my car for a couple of weeks so he can develop a few budget oriented solutions for those that aren't catastrophically bad with money. My end goal is to go coil-over with the rear suspension, so my set-up won't be of use to most people.

There rear rubs slightly on larger bumps, but that's mostly due to having a +20 offset with such large tire. You shouldn't have any issues if you stick with or above +25 out back (if you're using PSS tires). I wanted to go with 285/30's, but I couldn't find the PSS's in that size

My thoughts on the Motons? Well, how can I put this...... They're fking EPIC!

Saying that a few hard canyon runs trying to keep up with Ronin (the guy with the twin charged exige/rocket that's plastered all over the internet) while my car was still stock exposed some "handling flaws" would be the understatement of the century. The sharp elevation changes, rough surfaces, and varying camber corners were starting to make a real mess out of the chassis once I cranked the pace up to around 6/10. While the car did give me the confidence to hang at that clip all day, it still always felt like I was fighting with it. The car was all over the place with the electronic nannies switch off. If it wasn't understeering, it was oversteering (sometimes both in the same corner) and the body control felt like something akin to an old Cadillac. It seemed like I couldn't keep the thing from punishing it's bumpstops without backing the pace down. Regardless, the 1M was still a boat load of fun.

Back to the shop for the install:

WOW! What a difference two days and a set of Club Sports makes. I can now comfortably run at 7/10s without breaking a sweat. While there is still a little understeer and a rear bottoming issue (the car doesn't take being airborne well....... yet) that needs to be dialed out, I'm no longer trying to forcibly unsettle the chassis just to get the thing turned in. The rear end with the coil over conversion is, for lack of a better term, planted. It stays put unless I want it to come out and play. The body control was well worth the sacrifice in comfort now that all pitching, rolling, and yawing mess has been cleaned up.

There's still a bit of fine tuning that needs to be done, but it's already a massive improvement over stock. I managed to kill the PS2's in 3000 miles, so it's time huck the Advans and PSS's back on.

I expected you to go big on these. How did you like the brakes?

Are those the next mod in line or?
