2008 128i Sport Daily Driver Tire
She's about due, and I want to get away from runflats. She has 262 wheels, with OEM sizes of 205/50-17 and 225/45-17. I daily drive in the mid-Atlantic (Washington DC) area. If the weather gets bad, I can use my wife's X-3, so performance in snow isn't an issue.
It looks like from what I read I can save some $$ getting Conti ExtremeContact, spend a little more and get Bridgestone Potenzas, or spend a little more than that and get Mich. PS2 (PSS and PS3 aren't listed in the sizes I need). Any recommendations? She'll never see the track, and I'm generally a pretty tame driver. I want tires that are as quiet as possible, and that'll last. Thanks. |

Which Potenza's and ExtremContact's are you looking at? As for the PS2's, I personally wouldn't be looking at max performance summer tires if you want quiet ones that will last and work year round. Pilot Sport A/S Plus or the ExtremeContact DWS both are great choices that'll work in the mild mid atlantic winters when the temps drop below the mid 40s. Even if you have the X3 to use in the snow, summer tires are no fun even when it's dry and cold.

I opted for the Conti DWS for my 128i ZSP 'vert and have been quite happy with them. A bonus is that I can now travel during the winter in the 128i without worrying if I'll hit inclement weather.
If you don't purchase the tires from Tire Rack, I'd recommend Radial Tire in Silver Spring - good prices, good service, and they offer a nice discount to BMWCCA members. Tom |

I have hankook ventus V12. They performed in a test very well, are priced for 1/2 the cost, and have very good wet traction. They feel a bit floaty, but I just bumped up the PSI a little.

For a great all-season I'd recommend the Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

I wound up getting the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. I can't compare them to anything but the Pirelli RFT she had on her. She has a much nicer ride, and seems to handle was well or better--really a big improvement. She's my daily driver/commuter car here in the mid-Atlantic (DC), and I needed all-seasons.
I had one of the front RFTs put on a spare 262 rim I bought for a spare for long trips. Around town I'll depend on luck and my portable air pump. The mounted full size spare takes up alot of the trunk. Thanks for the replies to my question and others. I read alot before I bought. It basically came down to advice that the Mich were good tires, and my local guy stocked them at a good price whereas the others (Kumho/Conti/Hankook) were tires they would order and the prices weren't all that great. |
