I received the original letter at least a year or so ago. The final letter came exactly a week ago. Called up my local dealer and luckily they had some in stock. They held one for me, I made an appointment and I went in this past Wednesday. Took all of 25-30 mintutes

Had mine done today. I was hoping for a new steering wheel, somehow I didn't think these things were serviceable? Nope, same wheel, apparently with a new airbag.

Mine's not been done yet, but everything I've seen points to a new air bag module. Which is basically the steering wheel center cover.

Just saw over on an E70 board people are starting to get the side airbag replaced, didnt know the final solution was available. Whats interesting is that on my E70 which I traded 2 weeks ago, when looking up the VIN it never said there was a passenger side airbag recall.

Or maybe it's as they told you; the passenger airbag is made by a different manufacturer. Does any anybody know about this for sure?

Airbag is a separate unit. Check out realoem.com for a diagram. In older generation BMW's I've worked on, the airbag is held on by 4 torx bolts in the rear, and a wiring harness in the center. No reason you would get a brand new steering wheel under this recall imho.

It should come with a new airbag cover though.

My appointment for this Friday (10/20) has been cancelled. Parts department ran out of airbags! Expecting more in about 3 weeks, so they're going to call and re-schedule.

Also, in "my area" she says they're getting it done in 1.5-2 hours so they don't offer loaner cars.

Rec'd the notice letter about 15 months ago. Got a letter saying the parts were in 4 weeks ago and had the replacement done last week.

Had mine replaced today. The SA told me that they are responsible to open each airbag to determine if there was any corrosion. They are supposed to send the airbags with corroded parts to one address, and the non-corroded ones to a different address. He told me they had done almost two thousand and had yet to find one with corroded parts here in NE Ohio.

I too just today got a call to reschedule my appt which was originally next week. I'm late November now.

They didn't mention how long it would take, I hope it's faster. They're on the other side of town from me and there's little sense making multiple trips. Guess I'd better bring a book if I plan to wait around.

If I didn't think it'd affect resale value someday I'd probably just skip this hassle altogether.

Not too much of a hassle. Took my dealer all of 40 minutes to replace the airbag, flush and fill my coolant and hand wash the car. I barely completed a walk through the showroom and a lap around the lot before they were looking for me.

Peace... Mack

I had my car in for water pump replacement last week and they did the airbag recall replacement at the same time - I guess they have them in stock now.

I finally called the dealership's main service line after not hearing back from the SA who handled the warranty work on my car. He quit which explains why my calls weren't being returned!

Anyways, they will not have any replacement airbags in stock until January. I'd assume Las Vegas is low on the priority list with no ambient humidity.

I called to get my appointment made at the dealer near me. They said they were booked until late December.....really? Something that shouldn't take no more than 30 minutes to do and you're booked until then? Awesome.....

Had my driver's side air bag replaced at the dealership last week. While waiting for the service to be completed sent the wife a text indicating they wanted me to trade my 135i in for a new 2018 M3. Sticker 87k. Not going to happen.

$87k! New. Wow, who the heck is buying these things? I can't imagine spending that much in a car. Or anything else other than a house for that matter. Look for one used...
