SWS-8 Earthquake subs retailers in Australia.

Hi Guys,

Just posting this for anyone else who may be interested and wants to save the hunting around like i had to do.

The Earthquake importers for Australia is AMG Audio http://www.amgaudio.com.au/esproductmanuals.html

AMG Audio
PO Box 935,
Berwick, Vic, 3806
Toll free Ph: 1300 556 585 1300 556 585

Now they only sell through distributors, but i am sure if you ring and as for Bill (a fellow 1 series owner) he will let you know any local distributors. Being in Sydney i organised my purchase through FHRX http://www.fhrxstudios.com/ and the fellow i dealt with was Marty Price (0417 686 671) . He did me a deal, and has quoted me $400 delivered for two 4 ohm SWS-8s. I dont know if this is still available, but it doesnt hurt to ask. Especially when the subs sell for 130-150 USD each, and shipping on two is over $110USD. Net result is it is cheaper (for once) to buy off a local distributor then from the US.

It has taken at least a few weeks since i actually ordered mine, but AMG has just informed me that their shipment of SWS 8's will be landing on the 4/11/09. From what i have gathered this is the first shipment in a few months and the stock is selling pretty quickly.

Good luck, i'll let you guys know how all my equipment install goes ! and a shoutout to Marty and Bill for answering all of my questions. Also to Stacey at JB (known him since his MLC days) hi fi warringah mall who sold me the jl amp worth approx $1490 rrp for only $1150.

It took me several weeks to get the SWS's from AMG, shipped from the states.
How do you like your JL 900/5. I was going to get one, as it was reasonably power and in a very small chassis, though pricey. Decided I want more power though.

LOL funnily enough i am awaiting the bloody amp too. Custom Car Sound is awaiting their shipment and thus everyone else is too. I chose the amp due to it's supposed higher quality and less chance of "noise" over the pdx-5. I had the annoying alternator whine on my old '96 C-class with a pioneer amp, and i decided i never wanted to go through that frustration again.

All in all my car is still at least a week away from being ready to do any installing (in the service department awaiting BMW Germany to authorise a software update) so the wait isn't killing me yet. Speaker cowls for the tweeters wont be available until most likely first weeke december, and i am wondering if i should just wait till then and do all the wiring in one hit.

hmm just hear FHRX is doing 20% off focal, might be time to waste some more cash on poly 4" splits !

What software update?
How much are you paying for the tweeter cowls?
I got the Focal from FHRX, 20% off. I have both the slimline polyglass and 100KRS. I think it i worth spending more to get the KRS.

Not too sure about the exact specifics on what they are doing, all i was informed is that they are doing a "software update" for the entire car, not simply the HU. I must admit, i wasnt quite paying attention so please forgive if my explanations are rudimentary at best.

With regards to the cowlings, i paid about $36 US each, however as mentioned before BMW USA only had right side ones available in the country and left side ones are at best 2 weeks away from landing in the US. I asked Dan to get me in 2 sets (one for someone else on the forums) and ship them to my gf when they arrive. i'll then either get her to post them to me, or bring them when she comes out in December (depending upon how long they take to get in).

And yeah i saw the upgraded splits on the site, and i am considering it, just atm i have spent over $5k on stereo components and performance parts i am starting to think i need to back off a little lol.

If i did buy some i would take your advice though and buy the higher end for the approx $468 AUD since they would be put to good use. No point getting them before i get the mirror tweeter housings though.

Still awaiting exact shipping costs, however i paid $800 USD for the exhaust. I beleive Dan at United BMW (www.unitedbmwparts.com) said the shipping is around $140 USD to deliver it to Australia. I may be wrong, it might be more but regardless, in Australia the exhaust is damn close to $2k. I doubt the shipping and delivery costs would be more then $1000-$1100 AUD.

Dan said the special was ending soon, or actually already had. You might be able to get him to extend the offer, but he did tell me their prices would possibly be going up, and shipping would no longer be free in the US. Because i wanted it shipped internationally, he deducted the $80 off the price for the free US delivery. So the cheapest it will be in the future if the price does not increase will be $880 + delivery to either US or international.

PDX amps are class acts, doubt you will get noise with one at all. Can't compare a Pioneer to an Alpine or JL.

Finally got into the back seat of my car (sunroof takes away a lot of headroom, no??) and had a look at the woofer grill under the seat... hard to believe a sub (even though it's shallow and 8") will fit there. That said I can't wait to be proven wrong lol

Those links cover everything from installing LC6i line converters, pdx amps and also SWS sub woofers under the seats. Also discusses some of the issues in the last or second last one about some noise issues with the pdx range of amps. even properly installed it is claimed that a great deal of luck is involved in what you receive. Some are awesome, others less spectacular.
