Exclamation $400 to get my Assist activated!!!!

I am recently returned from an overseas assignment where I bought my 135 coupe. I optioned it with Bluetooth/BMW Assist at the tune of $750. I attempted to get my service activated today since i am now in the US (Assist isn't able to be activated overseas). Did the first part with one of the sale staff then got told that my service needed to be re-activated per service info bulletin 842205. I head to the service department where I am told not only can it not be done then but that it would be a 5 hour process at my expense of $400. This is BS! I am not paying $400 for a service I already paid several hundard dollars for when the vehicle is US spec and should have already had the correct programing.

BMWNA if you are reading this please explain how this can be that a active duty service member can be asked to pay an additional $400 dollars for a service which has already been paid for in full.

I am trying to find a contact number for BMWNA to get this sorted out because I cannot believe this is the legendary service that a BMW affords you!

Anyone else run across problems like this?

You have an active assist account. There's no reason you should have to pay for anything.

Sounds like the dealership is trying to rip you off or they don't have their shit straight. Either way, find another dealership somewheres near.

The problem is that they are the only place remotely close. They don't have their crap together from number of people involved to ultimately tell me it is my problem and they aren't responsible.

They are claiming that my Assist needs to be reprogrammed for the US....It was suppose to leave the factory as US-SPEC. Ridiculous; seems like BMW is trying to find every possible cost cutting measure even if it costs them customers.

Sounds like the dealership not BMW. That said, take every avenue to get straight...and don't pay anything for it (obviously)

Try calling 800/831-1117. That is BMW NA customer relations. Explain your problem and the dealership who's causing it. You won't have a problem for long.

I trust that BMW will solve this problem. It makes me made that their are dealerships out there that try this garbage. I am relatively young for BMWs customer base but that does not meant it is acceptable to give me any less respect. I left a message and will keep you guys posted when I know more. Thanks for your support.

I'm wondering if everyone knows that the numbers for BMW, including Roadside Assistance, Local Service Department and BMW Customer service can be found in the audio head unit. Menu > BMW > then scroll to which number you need. I don't have iDrive so it may be in a different location for those of you who have it.

^^^That IS great info for those who don't know about it. It was one of the first things I noticed when I turned on my audio head unit.

Mine does as well. They will reprogram them when you have your first service.

I seem to recall there is a sticker on the driver's door jamb with the same or similar contact info. The low tech backup plan.

Glad to see another blue water out there. I ordered my 135 while overseas too and took delivery at the Performance Center and they had to reprogram the BMW assist. This was accomplished at no charge.

I received a response from BMW but still no answer yet about how this is going to be fixed. I cannot believe I am the first person to have this issue with all the military sales and Euro delivery optioned BMWs sold. This is getting old.:iono:

You may be the only one to get bluetooth. I didn't and I know three of my Army friends who got 1ers in Germany didn't either.

No assist on mine either so it's a non factor. However, my numbers are still German as well. Hopefully that'll be fixed at the first oil change/service.

I dropped off the car today for what was indicated to be a 5 hour reprogram job; at hour 6 I get a call telling me that my car won't be done today and that it will be monday before they can continue the job. Supposedly they put computer reading information in to BMW America and did not get a response.

What the hell does reprogramming a BMW involve? Seriously I could have installed 20 bloated windows Vista systems in the time spent just today.:bs:

BLAH!

Another update:

3 days with BMW of Nashville now and my car is still not done. The story I am getting is that they are waiting on a response from the BMW engineers. I don't get it, the car was fine except the Assist was not activated now they are making it seem like the computer is jacked. To me it seems like some turd took my car out and damaged it and now they are trying to fix it without my knowledge.

Ooo I get to use a new one!

Yes they agreed after I got BMWNA involved. I wonder if they are dragging their feet because of that fact but at the same time it wouldn't make too much sense because I have a loaner from them.

***EDIT***
Just got a call, supposedly it failed the first attempt then they were waiting on BMW's response. The word came back to try it again and it took. Oh well, it is done.

I'm ordering my 135 while I'm overseas too. Just finishing up loan paperwork now. Hopefully I don't have this issue.
