Steering Squeaks after downpipe install.. :(

Hi,

I posted this in the main forum, but im putting it here hoping for some help from someone local..

Last night I installed a set of AR downpipes on my car.
Everything bolted up fine.
I had to unbolt the steering rack to make a bit of clearance to get some more access.
Anyways, everything bolted up 100% just fine when I put it all back together.

However now my steering squeaks when I turn the wheel left or right, when stationary and at pretty slow speeds, (around carpark etc).
More predominately when I turn the wheel right.

Ive searched a bit, and could really find anything similar to this.

Any Ideas what it could be, before i get back under the car and have a look?

Ive attached a link video of what it sounds like...

http://youtu.be/5mTjuyq3xbU

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Pete

First off a big congrats at the install of dp's Peter. I know it's a #$%^ of a job. Not sure what it is exactly. Unfortunately looks like your gonna have to get back under the car and check that rack. Don't think you'll get much help from the main forum as most are LHD car's.

my steering squeaks too but apparently it is from the heat shield. Took it back to BMW and they lubricate something in the steering column and its all fix for now.

Yeah I fixed it last night.
It was just the little heat shield that sits on the steering rack joint.
I just bent it up a tiny bit.

I did that from the top of the engine. Right AFTER I finished ramping up the car and taking off the bottom tray... Oh well.

Yeah all sorted. ! Thanks!

The oxygen sensor on the front downpipe is a bit of a squeeze in terms of fitment. And there's only so much it can be rotated before u can't get the mid pipes to line up.
I reckon the end of the sensor has less than 1mm of clearance from the steering shaft heat shield.

And no hoist.
Did it all under jack ramps...
Pain in the asssss. But I did it!

You are hardcore man. Good effort on stands, that's crazy. I've seen it done on a hoist and I felt sorry for my workshop. I can't even install my fire extinguisher bracket that goes under my seat

AR DUMPS

Sorry for the late reply.
You are on the money, there is an issue with the new series of AR dumps just make sure you purchase from BMR, as there units have been modded by Advan to get around the Number 1 O2 sensor clearance issue. You should not fit up these new Dumps with out the mods as under some engine load condition the sensor is hard up on the steering shaft, you will feel a vibration in the steering wheel. There is a chance that the live ie 12 VOLT/ POWER wire for the O2 sensor could short out and this will not only damage the DME but the wiring as well. BE WARNED

Ring me if you need more info
