New post so 631twentyeighteye will stop whining...

Installed my CDV-delete and E93 M3 FSB this weekend.

FSB is a very nice, balanced approach to the front end. I lived with/drove/cherished a very uncompromising Datsun 510 beater for 14 years and would not/will not have another street car with that stiff of a suspension. I don't mind adding "feel" to my car, but harshness is out. The M3 FSB fits this bill very well. Taut, but not overly stiff. More M3 bits to come, along with Koni Sports and maybe the Sprint springs.

CDV-delete is a no-brainer. I don't get people who don't notice the difference. Clutch engages at exactly the same place regardless of how fast or slow it's actuated. As it should.

Yes, these observations could have been posted in a more general area. Until we have a 128i-dedicated forum this is where I will post (except the classifieds ) I love my NA 128i. Silky smooth power delivery in an essentially perfectly 50-50 balanced, relatively light-weight package. Styling? I LOVE it. Headlights too big? To me they remind me of Anne Hathaway's eyes. Works for some, not others. Saggy undercarriage? To me, as I've said before, it reminds me of a cat getting ready to pounce. In my eyes, the 1-series is hitting on all cylinders. Wouldn't have bought it if it didn't.

For you 135 renter/owners who might happen upon this thread, I didn't settle, I chose. I make six-figures and could have purchased many different vehicles but not ONE I considered had a turbo. Would I like more power? Sure, but nothing about my life has been about taking the easy way and I just don't like the power delivery. My 510's 1600CC NA SOHC wasn't breaking any acceleration records, but it was oh, so rewarding to build and tune MYSELF. I couldn't just buy a flash tune and some pipes.

FWIW, I learned to drive a stick in a (Fiat) 128 and used to love to piss off all of the BMW yuppies by passing them in the twisties in my primer-over-rust 510. Talk about keeping up momentum through the corners...

End of (todays) rant.

Already done. Had to leave out one washer as my car wouldn't start because the clutch safety switch wouldn't actuate.

I also took one washer out before install. I am now contemplating taking the foam pad off, will see in a few days.

Same here, though I was thinking of building it back up slowly with some Nomex discs in between the rubber washers .010 at a time until the car won't start again, and then back off one .010 disc. Might be a little anal.

Why would we need that? We already have a 1M dedicated section for a car where the vast majority of its info relates to everyone else but we never see it. A 128i specific forum or section beyond the specific engine differences would only make it worse. Both mods you mentioned apply to my 135i and I'm glad you discussed them here. I wish the 1M owners would do the same.

At least the 1M gets respect. I'm fairly new to the forum and have noticed a definite prejudice against the "lowly, had to settle for a" 128. Not every 135 owner, but enough to chap my hide. Maybe they are a vocal minority, but they are vocal, and hard to ignore.

I want to add to the 128 love. I just got my new wheels, and tires last night OZ Ultraleggera with General Gmax tires. I went with 17s because the roads near me are terrible. Feels so much better than the 18" run flats, or winter tires I had on before. Next is to finish the stereo, then CDV, then I should be good for a bit. I already have the Magnaflow exhaust, K&N filter, and redline in the diff, and gearbox.

I also chose the 128 over 135 without price being a big factor. I like the feel of the engine, especially when you get up past 4K RPM. Turbos just don't do it for me. I tried a couple of 135s, but I preferred the 128s I drove.

Pics of the wheels?

What redline fluids did you use?

I will have to check on the Redline oils I used, but I believe that it is D4 in the transmission, and 75W90 in the diff. I just used the recommended oils from the redline web site. I have to say after putting them in my gas mileage improved, and the shift feel is a lot smoother. I will be putting redline oil in the engine next oil change!!!!

Probably because there is a differing mindset among 128i and 135i owners.

At least among the 128i enthusiasts here, we tend to prefer older BMWs, focused NA driving cars, and generally dislike the future of motoring.

135i enthusiasts tend to like cars such as the GTR and the F10 M5 and all that they entail.

Love this thread. I am 23 and bought my 128i because it is a pure as it gets for a sophisticated ride. 6 speed manual with rear wheel drive and a generous 3l 6 powering the car.
My GTI 1.8T is all the turbo I need. I chose this car because I have no desire for turbo. My criteria was those simple three things. 128i is a perfect car that will *knock on wood* last for many years!

hey few questions:

What's a reasonable rate to pay a shop to do a CDV delete?

Who the hell offers an aftermarket clutch for this car? Charlie at bimmersport told me just to install an m5 clutch lol I'm at 160km and should probably do it before it starts slipping bc I hate a slipping clutch more than anything.

Did you do the m3 fsb without the m3 lca's?? Is it possible to do this? Looking to get one soon, but I've always used eibach and never had any issues. Did you order the end link adjustment kit from hpa or is your car stock ride height?

CDV delete literally took me 5 minutes without any experience at all.. just unplug, cover hose with thumb, swap to a non delay one and plug it back in. No idea what a shop would charge, but if you can get the car high enough off the ground to crawl underneath it(ramps in mine case) then you can do it yourself for sure.

Stock ride height (for now) so no adjustable links and I may not go low enough to need them, LCAs will come later with all the other M bits as well.

I know a guy in North York, free with an oil change or any other service or on its own real cheap.

I did m3 FSB without any m3 bits. Stock height
