Purring water pump?
I sometimes hear a repetitive "purrrrrr" coming from near the coolant reservoir. It purrs for about 5 seconds, pauses for about 10 seconds then repeats. It's not the nasty fuel pump sound I've heard on various videos. Sounds more like a loudly purring cat. Haven't yet correlated it to any particular temp or driving condition.
Is this normal behavior I just need to become accustomed to? 2009 N54 w/ 34K miles. Here, kitty kitty... |

Its normal.
You can insert your key fob, but don't start the car, just press the starter button, to turn on. Then press and hold down the gas pedal for 15 secs or so. This will start the water pump into the bleed test mode. You should hear the pump do the same thing... on... off... on... off.... Then remove the key fob. You can also have the OBDII fault memory checked fora waterpump failure code. The early '08 and '09 cars seem to have a high failure rate. Its best to change out your waterpump before it leaves you stranded. Just check out my waterpump failure poll for more info. Dack
