The reasons people think this car is not fit for daily driving have absolutely nothing to do with the its performance or usability but rather its limited production numbers.

The "what if something happens to it" idea freaks people out more than driving what some make out to be a rough and tumble sports car for weekend and track.

Its totally fine, completely capable and enjoying as tits to drive!

Just over 27k now , DD and enjoy it now as much as I did the first month.
Fantastic car, a sense of occasion every time you drive it.
Wouldn't want to swap it for anything else, and have tried.

My 1M is at over 21K miles as of today. It was my only car for a while, but I do approximately 30k miles/year due to a long commute and I was getting annoyed that most of my miles driving this special car were spent sitting in rush hour traffic. So I bought another car (an '06 Miata) for sitting in traffic and I use the 1M for weekends and those nice days that I go in late and avoid the traffic.

The 1M is the perfect DD car if your situation is right. But I don't think it's the right car if most of the time spent driving it will be in stop-and-go traffic during rush hour commutes.

a 135 is a sporty car that one can use every day for a lot less :-)

Whatever floats your boat, but I find that unfortunate. The car starts to own you at that point, rather than the other way around. I failed to put down a deposit for a 1M when it was announced, but it would have been my DD since I have a track car. Anyway, it's easy for me to say since I have never put more than 7500 miles on any single car in a year.

One of my friends doesn't spend money on much, but his true passion is watches. He goes swimming while wearing one of his $10k watches, doesn't freak out when it gets a scratch that will polish out, etc. He says it's very liberating to actually use and enjoy his possessions to the fullest.

Ah, so he did not disclose to you that, actually, he is the one thrashing around two F50s (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=34), an Enzo (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=16) a Rolls Royce (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=50) and a Lambo (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=25).

55 awesome miles every damn day! Why keep the miles low for the next owner (assuming there is one)?! I love every second behind the wheel of mine.

I used to DD mine, but now only doing light duties. Only issue with DD is long highway run. If you are not going to mod your exhaust the drone at 110km is a pain.

I don't think there is a truly drone-free exhaust out there.

I am sure there are a few since I for instance have zero drone now after changing from stock to N55 mids plus Evolve Race muffler. First 2000 km. there was a slight drone left at a narrower band (like a quarter of the stock drone) and it was already a very liveable progress over stock (I had drone at all gears starting with second, between 2000 to almost 3000 rpm) but now I have none, zero! Just plain good exhaust note(s).

True about getting over excited on one's own car and 1M as just a car to enjoy but not that far, not yet Ian! First, we need to see if BMW will get the future M3/M4 and M2 "right" and even if they do (like they did with E90 to a great extend) people will always remember and appreciate a great car, we all remember E46 M3, especially CSL, I do remember Z3M and Z4M coupes etc.

I doubt the last M5 made people forgot old ones too!

So you never know. And if the next M cars miss the point, even slightly, then 1M will be remembered as the last of the "right M cars".

LOL.. because there is no history here... like the E30 M3 Sport Evo... the E36M3 lightweight... the S54 Z3 M and Z4s... and the E46 M3 CSL.... those cars were OH so forgotten when the next model came out right? Everyone should take your advise and sell now while their cars are at their " highest value " right?...

I am not a collector.. nor am I saving my car... but I don't drive it every day either... let's not try and diminish what others want to do with their own vehicles just because you don't agree. If someone wants to make their car a bubble car.... it's their choice. and it might just become a $100,000 car..

I think i have seen ONE such individual post something similar... that he was afraid to use it...... had very low mileage.... and wished he could drive it more... it turned out the poor man lives in Chicago.... other than though... doesnt seem to be a common occurence..

in which case it will be a collectible...... or.. if the new cars are better.. it will be remembered as the FIRST of the next phase of incredibly awesome M cars.... ala the E30 M3.. in which case it will be a collectible.. oh wait... it already is....
