the resale value and trade in on these cars suck
Kinda regret ever buying this car, the depriciaing is soo bad, had no clue, I own an 09 with 19k miles that is flawless in and out and they only offered me 18 or 19k at 4 dealership, they all said the same thing , these cars suck for resale or trade in. I should of got a subaru, they hold great value. Just venting.

Of course the dealership is going to lowball you, since they have to turn around and resell the thing for a profit... Have you checked the Kelly Blue Book price?

That's pretty good the average asking price on cars.com is 22k out of 70 listings. It's not even worth the trouble for you to try to sell it yourself.

i think the 1-series has decent 2nd hand value. you don't like the trade in value? sell it on your own. You'll probably get low-to-mid $20s. if you buy a car to have it not depreciate...you should just buy a Honda Accord. |

IMO resale on this car is better than most. As mouse said, it's the 6 years that dominates your trade value. What did hawk expect a salesman to say about their trade-in offer? "You really should get much more but we are intentionally lowballing you"? Get a grip on reality.

It is actually one of the best cars out there for resale value.
You are in for a shock if you get something else. http://www.autos.com/car-buying/best...t-resale-value |

Ya its unfortunate. But lets say you sell it and try to get into an evo or a subaru. Quickly you'll realize that to get into one of those thats 9 years old and not nearly as nice to drive everyday you have to drop 22k. Not exactly fair is it? Just keep the Bimmer forever and don't worry about depreciation.

I feel that cars in general do not hold their value like they used to. Any luxury car brand used to drop quickly the first 3 years and then alot slower and hold steady at mid teens to mid 20's depending on the model, condition and mileage. Look at a 335i now you can find 07's for under 15K now. People use to make fun of new Jag owners as they were going to lose 80% of the cars value in the 5 years they owned it but the other Luxury brands now days aren't much better.
You want to save money on a sporty car now days your choices are a used Porsche, M model, Some AMG models or a vette.

I'd like to personally thank my car's original owner for taking the depreciation hit. I also appreciate the lose you took on the performance aero kit, exhaust, 269 wheels and genuine carbon parts. Thanks buddy.

dealer offer on my 2013
The $29.000 offer for my 2013 135i with 6500 miles on it, as trade-in, was a little lower than I expected. Should have bought an M-- I think they are almost holding their original value.

I don't look at a car as an investment. Would it be nice to get money out of it once I sell it? Sure. I'm never going to sell mine so that's not a worry to me. If you want the luxury of not having to go through the private selling process then you'll have to take the hit for the dealer to take it and sell it. I consider and money lost from my mods to depreciation as the price I pay to drive the car, and having fun doing it. Have to get it at the right price to buy a car and flip it for profit or break even a year or two later. It's almost a guarantee that it will be negative, allways. Unless it's a 1m. Bought mine for 38k from the factory the way I wanted it. 6 years 65k miles and I can still get 19k for it trade in. With how much fun it's been and how awesome it feels to drive it, sounds like a deal to me.
