steering wheel trim question - help pls!

been searching, but can't definitively solve my question.

I have the non-sport base steering wheel with the center chrome accents. The center trim piece is peeling and I want to replace it. Does anyone know if the M-sport trim piece without the chrome will fit?

here is the peeling wheel trim that I have. the pic further down is the trim I'd prefer. it looks like a fit, but then again the chrome curved area is a slightly different curve. thanks for any expertise / advice

Should fit fine. The M sport, and M3/1M use the same attachment points. I can't see why the non sport one would be any different since it was fitted to sport steering wheels, and depending on the vehicle trim it dictated the trim used in many cases, especially on the 3 series which uses the exact same steering wheel.

For confirmation visit realOEM and look at the different options for the steering wheel trim.

Wrong.
I've swapped them on my old 128i. The chrome, M-Sport, M3, and alacantara ones are all interchangeable.

You can even fit the X1 LCI chrome trim if you want.

Check the DIY section or YouTube. Tons of info. Depress two tabs with a T12 screwdriver and it pops out. Disconnect your battery first and let it sit for 5 minutes to drain the power from the capacitors in the SRS system. Reconnect it after its all back together

Just to confirm. I recently replaced my Non M wheel with an M wheel. I had the same wheel and trim as you do. I was able to put the Non M trim on the M wheel with no issue so vice versa should be just fine.

Some people like the little indent before the M logo, some people don't.

They're interchangeable, but they don't fit 100% but like 99%. You can feel a little gap from behind if you have the "wrong" trim mounted.

Not sure if you've already swapped anything out, but I recently removed my steering wheel trim and vinyl wrapped it, and it looks incredible, despite being a cheap fix. Also, you definitely do not need to remove the airbag. Just take the screws off the back of the wheel and wiggle the trim piece off, and disconnect the wiring.

I did the same and I actually prefer it this way because I know 100% that it won't peel again..
