60,000 mile service...

Anyone care to chime in on what is recommended at 60 thousand mike service? What about timing belt (belt or chain?) and water pump? Car is running great at just about 57,000 miles, so the 60k s a few months away.

First off, they all need to change their name to Michael

From Mike Miller's maintenance guide

Replace O.E. or O.E.M. BMW poly-ribbed serpentine belts every 60,000 miles. Replace
O.E.M. Continental or Pirelli or original BMW V-belts every 30,000 miles. Replace
“auto store” quality V-belts every 15,000 miles.

Every 60,000 miles: water pump, thermostat, plastic thermostat housing if so equipped
(or replace it once with the aftermarket aluminum thermostat housing)

Constantly freshen all of the important fluid as well. If you haven't been consistent now is a great time to start and have your baseline at a nice, round 60k miles.

You could replace the waterpump. It can fail at anything from 60K to 80K miles.

For your 60K service I would replace:

air filter
spark plugs
oil and filter
pollen cabin filter
brake fluid flush
replace wiper blades

I would also replace your diff fluid and manual trans fluid. IF you have an automatic I would also do a AT service (filter and fluid).


check brakes
check poly ribbed belt for cracks (maybe replace at 80K ?)
