I would not be surprised at all if we saw a one year engine run with the new face, and then saw the 328/335/M3 engines debut a year or so later in the Z.
Great man. So, you don't recommend we buy the Z4 M because it has the current M3 engine which is heavier than the new M3 V8's. Initially, I was thinking my next move is a SLK55 , and then I thought I never owned a BMW M power car, so I might as well wait 2 years and check out the M3 E90 420hp. And, now the damn Z4 coupe (M?) is very tempting.
Honestly, with all that waiting , 335i is just a joker.

I have to see IF the current 3.25 R6 M3 engine is heavier than the E90 M3 V8.(4.0?)

I really doubt that. And I doubt many of those thoughts here.

335i in EU will be a 3.0 R6 twinturbo.

No, thats exactly the way how stupid rumors come up.

Please read carefully.

cntlaw mixed up what speedfreak said: upcoming M3 V8 is shorter than M3 I6, but lighter than Hartge V8 built in Z4.

Please all calm down, time will tell for sure

Yes. Time will tell I am in no hurry. My savings is even slower than BMW's new cars .

So far BMW has officially denied that the V8 will fit into the Z4 bonnet. Of course SpeedFreak could still be right - but still something to consider.

There will be NO V8 in E85 Z4 M.

BMW decided to rank M's to eliminate cross-interference among M models:

M1/M2 coupe & cabrio will feature I4 turbo with just under 300HP.
Z4 M roadtser & coupe - I6 NA with 343HP
M3 - V8 NA with 400+HP
M5 & M6 - V10 NA with 507HP

*HP by European standard

seems like a 1 series with a turbo 4cyl./300hp isn't much of a gain over the 130 with 3.0ltr 265 hp/232ft-lbs with m-sport package.

BMW wanted to set I6 343HP from the current M3 in the M1/M2, but the initial test rides proved the engine was too heavy for such a small vehicle. Even 130i has been criticised it has a heavy nose and not handling as it should. But M should handle perfectly -> a lighter & powerful engine needed. So, they started to develop NG4T engine with ~300HP. And that fits well into new policy of non-cross-interference.

M1/M2 will be much lighter and agiler than 130i, and with much more torque. Nothing to worry about performance wise.

Do not know, since the engine is still in development phase.
I'm trying to get more info.

But 2 different independent sources confirmed M1/M2 would feature NG4T engine with ~300HP.

Yeeess!!!

I totally was hoping the 335 would be natually aspirated! And, 310+ bhp is the right number - hopefully there will be +250ft/lbs of torque.

I guess it would be wishful thinking that they'll offer SMG, but the direct injection would be great. The fuel economy should be decent - hopefully at least 20 mpg city.

I heard there may be dual exhaust w/ single port... I hope it looks better than the Honda/Acura TSX exhaust.

OK, I read cntlaws post, so I got confused
It's normal:A V8 could be shorter than a R6.(and this one will)

I think there won't be an Z4 V8 anyway.
And I think the 335i biturbo is my next car within 2 years.

(I live in Europe)

Ihope that they offer a non-turbo. I am not a fan, I don't mod cars and turbo lag is something noone can eliminate and definately something I can do without.

With Di, some software playing around power can be the displacement equivalent of a 3.5 litre engine, they can call it 335, have it push 310 from a normally aspirated engine

Nothing is official... BMW has NOT decided any such thing. That's why it's possible that the Z could get the M3 V8. I'm well aware of the official denial... by BMW that the M version of the Z4 would get a V8. But it WAS designed and built with THAT in mind. Even if they don't do it... that is still a fact. It is completely possible.

Just to be clear...

MY07 SOP June '06 328Ci (235hp) and 335Ci (NA 310hp) with the sedan to follow SOP Sept. '06. This is still the inside scoop as far as my BMW NA sources are concerned.

lol I'm getting confused with all the information presented. Speedfreak, can you post a review list of what BMW might be preparing for the next few years? If it's not too much trouble that is.
