I owned mine from 1985-1992 also fully engineered and legally registered with the RTA as a V8, it was also substantially modified in terms of external body work  don't know if it was the only one though, back then there were quite alot of cars in Melb. running around with V8's that weren't born with them. Mine was fitted with a small block 350 Chev. mild tune and street driven for the 1st 4 years, then I went all out and with the help from the boys at Chev off road and marine racing engines, fitted it out with a 700hp Avgas and NOS breathing 350 Chev and turned it into a 1/4 mile blaster, achieving a best time of 9.67 @ over 140mp/h  Ah, those were the days I'll have to show you some pics sometime  |

This pisses me off.
Got a call from my dealer, pick my 125i on Friday, and live around the corner from Chapel st. I had been reading threads on the US forum about this sort of behaviour, and was hoping it was more limited to the states then this pops up. Oh well just have to be carefull I suppose. "Good" new for you I suppose is that it was only spit and not anything worse Good new for me is, I pick my car up on friday |

I built mine form scratch, strictly for road use in youth while I was studying automotive engineering.. Purchased it as a stocky one owner and ripped it apart.. Should of gone for the chevy motor as the 308 had a much wider V to the block and gave us so much problems with access to the plugs and engineering the chasis and sump. I even engineered a C shaped tool at the time to allow me access to the adjustment on the dizzy...( still have it)..lol.. The funny thing was when i had it inspected and road tested it was running a Holly 850 dubble pumper carby, and i tampered with the carby so that it only ran on the primaries.. In the engineers report to the RTA he stated that the power equaled but didnt exceed the 6 cylinder Bathurst version...lol Then had to sell 18 months later after my first son was born to buy a block of land to build my first house.. Will have to scan the pix as they werent digital in the good old days...lol My cousin just sold a white, completely stock, fully original, as all the parts where factory, XU-1 for $59K.. As it wasnt showroom condition..just all original..low clicks.. |

I too end up selling it (in pieces, ie: separate engine/running gear and rolling chassis for a better return) in '92 also to buy my 1st block of land to build my house I now live in  I too will have to scan pics and make digital copies, no such thing as digi or phone cams back then LOL I must say I really miss that car... And isn't it amazing how much these Aussie muscle cars are valued at these days, good on your cousin, if only I could foresee this trend 20-25 years ago, I could've purchased so many Ford GT's and Holden Toranas etc. in mint original condition and made a small fortune now...this is the reason behind the current HSV W427 being a sellout, nearly all of them have been purchased by collectors hoping for a good appreciating investment. If they end up like the original Ford GT 'hoees' that fetch up to 7-800k :eyebulge: these days, then they're onto a winner  |

Wraith that is so true mate in hindesight.
The cars that I have owned in the past/pre BMW's, that if I kept could have been collectors items.. LJ XU-1 Torana 308 HK 327 Monaro HQ LS 308 Monaro That is without the 2 x HR premiers I rebuilt from the ground up.. and another LJ GTR running a stroker and tripple webbers.. Man the wasted $$$$$$$$$$.... My first BMW was in 1985 320i sedan... been BMW's ever since apart from our daily drive cars.. Must say, at the moment have purchased 2 Toyota Yaris's YRX's with all the options last year for daily work cars for my wife and I, and they have been exceptional cars.. |

My past vehicles were also many of the Holden hi po classics... LC GT-R XU-1 Torana (with LJ front conversion) and afore mentioned V8 etc. LX SL/R 5000 Torana genuine example. LX L34 Torana Hatchback. Also had another LC GT-R Torana, beautiful 161 cu in. double barrel carb job in those and they flew... Had an Ford XA GT 351 again genuine, original HZ Sandman panel van ansd a good ol EH with 3 on the tree as my 1st ride - loved that car...damn how I wish now I'd kept some of those More crying when I too think of all the $$$$$ I've spent, but in reality, no regrets I loved it and the memories and joy at the time are priceless  And I'm still at it, (as I'm sure you and most others are) only very tamed down and much more conservative and much less modding these days, forgot to mention earlier, I too made/fabricated so many specialised tools just for work on my cars - I made a custom crane hoist and so many engine stands specifically for use on my V8 XU-1, when I think about it, I can't believe how driven/fanatical I was back then with cars, ah well back to the present  |

They're fairly cheap to run and straight 3rd party insurance is cheap for 'older' people and that's all you need on a vehicle like that... The only prob with multiple cars is the many regos can add up to a hefty yearly fee, but for me I'm not phased by that  |
