JB4 install troubles....please HELP
Hi,
I just recently bought a JB4, charge pipe, and intake (all Burger) for my 2012 BMW 135i. I installed everything as per the instructions (except for the charge pipe as it's instructions weren't for my car.) I also couldn't follow the lock everything, pop the hood, then wait 10 minutes theory as my alarm would immediately sound if the car was manipulated with locked doors. But I was able to detach the negative battery terminal. There's no way to get back in the trunk once the battery is unhooked. Thankfully this forum is such a good resource and I was able to jump the car off to get into the trunk. Besides all that, I'm making this post because I'm in a bind. After installing the items, my car isn't running right. At idle it makes a weird clucking sound. When I try to set my map with the jb4, the speedometer and tach needle position is off. I tried to reset the gauges using code 2/5 but the needles remained in the wrong spot when in the menu. Check engine light also popped on and it almost died twice at idle. I took a short trip down the road to see how it runs. Under moderate throttle or more you can hear a boost blowoff kind of sound and the car surges. What in the heck could be the problem? I'm mentally tapped and living here in Hammond, LA I have limited resources. Any advice would be amazing. Here is a video of the cluck sound: http://youtu.be/nNooEg_vk6M Sincerely, Jake (985)-507-786one |

Do you have an N54 or N55?
Not sure if I can help with the idle/running problem, but Im sure someone on here would tell you to double and triple check your connections. What codes are you getting? (Speedo 1, tach1) as for the needle alignment, I am assuming you have a 135, so go to speedo 5 tach 1 to set the alignment for the 135. You will need to count the presses of the steering wheel controls since the needle will not line up correctly. |

Blinkers flashed then speedo went to 2,7,5. The link on the Burger forum won't work for me on to how to read codes so I'm trying to figure out as I go. I saw how the reset the cluster 1/5 but I never saw the 135 configure. Thanks a lot man 5/1 has the numbers displaying right. Now if I can just figure out what that cluck noise is and why it's not running right. I probably messed up something on the install but I've triple checked everything and don't know what. Scared to drive the car as is because something is obviously wrong. |

I checked all connections multiple times during install and before post. Just checked them all again. All seems correct. Code run looks like this:
Under full throttle. Sometimes it pulls as if it doesn't have a turbo. Other times it feels boosted but it sounds like a waste gate is releasing even though I'm full throttle. Is the caution sign suppose to be on by the trip meter? |

code 2775 - engine moment monitoring level 2? not sure what that is
what map are you running? does it exhibit the same issues on all maps? did you modify the default wastegate position on the JB4? |

Yea I'm not sure what that's about either. So thanks to burger tech support it was discovered that I had the MAP plug in the MAF (doi). Guess install wasn't a good idea after working 16 hr night shift but I couldn't wait anymore.
Map 1 and I didn't change a thing other than setting it to 135i (as you wisely suggested) I did a log because the car still wasn't right. Was surging some on WOT and there was a noticeable increase in turbo lag. It was recommended that I turn my PID down to 6. Attached is the link to the first log and then the second log after I turned the PID down. I have no idea what I'm looking at. Any critiques? https://drive.google.com/folderview?...FE&usp=sharing Last edited by excesss; 09-16-2014 at 07:00 AM.. |

In the link above is now log 3 and 4. Both are with the PID turned down to 80. Something still doesn't feel right.
I removed the charge pipe again to make sure the O-ring is seated in the groove right. I also squeezed the C-clip a little more in to make for a tighter seat. All looked well. |

Make sure your charge pipe is all the way clamped and fastened correctly

Sent a few logs to burger and after a few changes its running MUCH better. Still more turbo lag or better said a big initial hesitation when stomped but maybe it'll work itself out. |
