Nice to finally see a color outside of red in a video. I wonder if the 6 piston front and 2 piston rear brakes are included in the M-sport package for the 123d? I'm getting tired of waiting to see the full US market specifications.

Does anyone have a sound clip of the old ETA 6-cyl engine in a 325e at startup? I swear the old ETA engine sounded quite a bit like that reving the engine at startup.
I think that they might have actually tried too hard to show how quiet the diesel engine is in the video. They never showed it really getting on the gas hard. The video is almost too quiet. At one point you can't even hear the car over the whistle of the wind going over the mic. That blue is amazing, even in the overcast lighting later in the video. I REALLY want a 123d now! |

Nice car to see in blue.
The more I see it in its natural environment the better it's going to look. |

Once again goes to show all current BMW's look like ass with small rims. It really make a BIG difference.
Is that really LeMans? Not as striking on the 1 as I would have thought. Maybe Monaco (my first choice) is it. |

the curves really complement deep interesting colors. i would have chosen the blue and red to be my first release colors too. i bet the sedona red looks great in person, striking and aggressive.
+1. i really want to hear what a 1er diesel would sound like with an open throttle. although i suppose similar to the 5 series'.. i guess the only way to make a diesel sound good really is to make it quieter |

It's a shame that we're not getting the 123d as it would be an intriquing option. Hopefully we'll see it in the not too distant future. BTW, thanks to bmmr razr for the clip. |

Keep in mind that you won't hear the 123d idle very often if you leave the computer set to shut off the engine automatically at stop lights. So BMW actually did figure out a way to get rid of the diesel clacking at idle, they shut it down! =) Quote:
Anyone want to discuss a possible 2009 US price for a 123d non-sport with 17" wheels and leatherette? heh heh. |

I agree with you on the time line for the 123d (same there as here in Canada) As for pricing... I will compare it with the 128i. I think it will be just under. So, if the 128i comes in base at $29,000 USD, the 123d will be $28,000 (about $33,000 CND, since I think the 128i will be $34,500) |

I'll buy anyone in here a beer who did their own valve adjustments to the ETA 6. I still have the tool if anyone needs one. |

I never did any valve adjustments on my 325e, so no beer for me. Bummer.
Unfortunately I only had the car for 8 months, but it was a glorious 8 months. 22K miles and I loved every one of them. I rue the day that I sold that car. The 123d seems like a modern day interpretation of the 325e: 121 HP & 170 ft-lbs on the 325e vs 200 HP & 300 ft-lbs for the 123d. So they are both torque biased engines. :roundel: |

Anybody notice the M Sport Kit looks different up front on the 123i than on the 135i. I like that they did that. So I'll be able to differentiate between a 128 M and a 135i M.

I read that the M Sport kit on the 135i was unique to the 135i, plus with the brake setup on the 135i the front needs to incorporate the cooling ducts. This is more evidence that the advanced brake setup on the 135i will not be available on the other 1ers with the M Sport package.

Purely a question of economics. Having the sport package would be great, but I'm on a budget. Depending on the base price, I think I might be able to buy a new 123d as long as I don't option it out too much -- and as long as I get it for around $700-$1,400 over ED wholesale list. Oh, and with a $500 BMW Car Club of American (BMW CCA) reward.
http://www.bmwcca.org/files/Membersh...Guidelines.pdf 27,000 US retail MSRP (just as an example) -2,000 ED MSRP discount (ED MSRP based on ~7% off of US MSRP) -1,500 negotiating down from ED MSRP down to ED wholesale + profit - 500 BMWCCA reward ____________________ 23,000+delivery fees, plane tickets, options, sales tax, and a performance chip. If I keep the options down to just heated seats, and use airline miles to get the tickets, this is totally realistic for me. I just can't deck the car out with all the options that would be nice to have, like the sports package. I'll have to try and make up for the lack of a sports package by doing a sunroof delete to lower the total weight and center of gravity. It is already 145 lbs lighter than the 135i. It should handle OK without the sports package considering it would be 200 lbs lighter without the sunroof compared to a stock 135i (with the sports package). Once the run-flats wear out and I replace them with real tires I will be in better shape. And I think that the 123d will feel like it accelerates quicker than the 0-60 times would indicate. BMW is giving a 0-60 of 7 seconds (7.1 for 0-100 km). But from the gear ratios and RPM redline, this looks like this will include a shift from 2nd to 3rd. The 135i times only have one shift from 1st to 2nd. If this is the case, the 135i 0-60 times artificially make it look to feel faster than it really does compared to the actual feel of the 123d while driving. Run the two cars to a speed where they have the same number of shifts, like 0-70, and the numbers will be closer. Add a perfomance chip to the 123d and I think it will feel like a rocket, even though a 135i will still out-accelerate it. I really want BMW to import these. Otherwise I'll be waiting for all of you guys to sell your 135i's used after 3 years. Anyone want to discuss how much you would sell your used 135i's for in 2011? heh. Wait... on second thought, do I really want to buy a used car from any of you guys? hmmmm |
