tire size help.

i done some research and im getting really close to buying my new wheels and tires as i been talking for the past few months. this guys setup has caught my attention and is what i want. hes running 255/35-18 (square) on Apex ARC-8 18x8.5 ET 45 (3mm spacer up front). now hes says hes running neg 3 camber in the front and 2 and the rear with rolled and slightly pulled fenders and no cutting. i want to avoid any pulling. i can deal with the rolling. if i took my pin out of my stock top hat would a 245 tire tire clear in the front with these offsets?

No way that would fit w/o camber plates.

EDIT: Wait, I'm confused: are you trying to run 245 or 255 up front? Either way you'll need moar negative camber.

i thought maybe a 245 would fit in the front without the plate. what is the best offset to go about when wanting to add a meaty tire in the front with camber plates then? im lazy and dont want to deal with the strut assembly again. that was a nightmare. spring compressor was acting up and i almost messed up the paint my fender with it because it wouldn't clear going back in when we install springs.

You mean without camber plates? To be honest I'm not sure; I've been running camber plates for a long time now and never faced tire fitment decisions without factoring them in.

Why do you feel you need at 245 up front?

Considering you track your car, I think control arms should be your first step. They are a massive improvement over stock, and provide the benefit of a couple extra degrees of camber. You could squeeze 245/35 upfront with control arms. Hell if you want rubber, drop down to 17x9" and you could get away with 255/35 all around.

As St|g mentions above, why? This car honestly sucks with too much tire, I'd recommend 235/40 with 18x8.5 et45 Arc8's at the most, even for a track setup. That's the setup I went with!

Side note, sometimes I really think about doing this:

This 11 minute video is worth every minute...

If you want to save some time start a 6:55

Watch the very end.....

The approach the shop takes is super detailed and backed with a very interesting method of measurement. Tire and wheel size is based on the car's dimensions and not "theory".

Here's a PDF for further information

Hope this helps a bit....

Spacers aren't great, shy away from those if you can..

Exactly. My car is somewhere in the 300hp ballpark and I have never felt the need for more tire than my 235 square setup. 0 rub, loads of grip, no real tramlining.

Contact patch is contact patch - if you can fit more tire without penalty, why not? The weight savings for going with a 245 vs. a 235 are pretty minimal. I don't understand the statement that the car "sucks with too much tire." Why?

I have 245 RS3 s on Kosei K1s on all corners. Car feels great.

No fender rolling, no spacers. Nothing. Stock suspension.

It is not over-tiring my stock car at all. Perfect for track.

The Kosei's are 16" though, right?

For what it's worth, I think removing the alignment pin only gets you around 0.5˚ more camber per side.

The argument would be that fun is had at the limits. Hence the BRZ/FRS coming with Summer Touring tires instead of Performance Summers.

Not that I think there is a particularly large difference between 235 and 245.

245 square is the perfect setup. I took my car out to mid ohio for some fun laps. And once again I can tell that 245 sq is great for the power we produce. 255 will reduce you straight line speed at track.
