I actually like pressing a button on a remote to open a car and then slotting something into the dash. Gives a greater sense of occassion to every trip in my opinion.

I was against CA until I had to drive a car with a "slot" key instead of the old fashioned ones you turn to start the car. Putting a key in a slot and then pushing a start button is one motion too many for me. I'd just rather get in, push the button and go. Get there. Push the button and get out. No pushing keys in and out of slots - that would get annoying very quickly for me.

On the other hand, I much prefer the old fashioned keys you put in and turn to start the car.:iono:

Actually, there is at least one thread concerning CA malfunctions.

I have it and think it is great. I'd not be such a fan if using it caused a moment of anxiety or concern whether it was going to work or not. I suspect and hope that these issues will get worked out. It's a great feature when it works as it should. The only other problem with it for me is that I now resent having to get my keys out of my pocket to get into my house. I need CA for my house now.

I am not sure about the 1 series convertible, but the 328i convertible requires CA to open and close the top via the remote. I got it for ease of entry and exit and not having to always get the key out. If the top can be opened and closed with a standard remote then it is less of a cool feature but still worth it to me.

Of course, "old fashioned" depends on your perspective. Some of us remember turning on the ignition with the key - and then pushing the dash mounted starter button (the same as most current motorcycles). Some exceptions, such as early 50's Buicks and Packards, had no push button but started by flooring the accelerator pedal for (hopefully) a few seconds.

Ahhhh.....young wippersnappers! Some of us remember when there was no starter at all and you had to get out in 3 feet of snow and crank it by hand!

(I'm kidding of course, but we did have a tractor that had to be hand cranked when I was growing up and that shit was no fun at all.)

I love Comfort Access. I'll hopefully never own another new car without this type of system on it.

If it was like a credit card and I could keep it in my wallet, it would be a must have. Very convenient.
If I have to carry the remote around, I might as well let it charge in the dash while driving.
What do CA people do with the remote while driving?

Yea, while you guys are busy being man's men.. I'll enjoy my girly comfort access. I will agree that it isn't a requirement but it sure is nice to have.

I don't have mine yet (any day now) but from what I've read you just touch it for a few seconds longer, then let go.

I think there is also a feature to roll down the windows and open the sun roof using the buttons on the FOB, but I'm not sure that requires CA. There is also a cool timer feature when you have iDrive that allows you to tell the car to open the sun roof and blow the vents for up to 30 minutes. So that can be used to air out the car as well.

The real benifit isn't while you're driving, it's not having to dig your keys out of your pocket to get in and out of the car. Not needing it to start the car is just a bonus IMO.

I really enjoy it and I'm glad I have it. It's just a convenience. It's especially handy if I'm getting in and out of the car with a bunch of stuff in my hands. One less thing to keep track of. My keys just stay in my front pocket and rarely come out anymore.

Not to mention the lack of scratches trying to get the key in the door. I LOVE CA. The best option I got next to the sport package.

When are we going to get voice activated door locking and unlocking + engine start? Now that would be cool.

I got CA mostly because I keep a lot of keys on my lanyard. I don't want those keys banging up against my dash. I also think it's cool that I can open/start the car without ever reaching in my pocket.

The windows only continue to shut as long as you keep your finger on the handle.
