Fastest way to drive for racing??
Hey guys I have an auto and I was wondering what's the best way to drive for racing? Would it be the paddle shifters or sports mode?? Or just leaving I'n regular auto? Sports mode to me only seem like for a short distance run.

Even in m if you put the pedal to the floor the car will downshift. Any way to disable the kick down?

Traction off, sports mode, and "manual" mode. Traction off of course you lose a little grip but then again there is no point to race on a track if you cant drift.

The fastest is w NOS and Vin Diesel ridin' shotgun, F&F style yo! Make sure to bring hot bitches it tiny shorts otherwise everybody will know you aren't legit.
Or more seriously go autocross to learn how to race fast, lots of local clubs, safe spot to have fun and cheap. Don't be a cocky dick and meet some people who know what they are doing and ask them to ride with. Racing should be done only in designated areas and preferably with a helmet on, don't be an ass and race on the streets.

Its not how you stand by your car. Its how u race ur car... U better learn that.
But just throw the car in sport and m/s and it should be good to go without you shifting because I dont want anyone to get killed out there lmao |

street racing with my auto, i start at 4000 rpm in whichever gear and speed i want to start the race. i then manually upshift at 6000 or so, car is much faster than leaving it in drive sport.

In a straight line, I would just let the automatic shift. On a road course, a shift in the middle of a turn while you are near adhesion limits can upset the car and take you past adhesion limits. For that reason, it is better to shift yourself. You might even be faster to back off a bit and let the car shift for you but if you want to corner near the limits, you can't have unexpected shifts occurring.

I agree wholeheartedly with the subsequent statement though. On a side note. This is a street racing thread? |

~6000RPM = not necessarily. it depends on the gear and surface conditions. I dotn reallly get a lot of torque drop until more like 6800. If i am on a twisty i might utilize the torque drop though and take her to red line then force the drop into the hgher torque band exiting the curve. This helps me plant the vehicle better without that rear end swap feeling. Of course I am not saying it isnt still possible because it is. now in a straight line i thnk I would still shift manually more at 6500 to 6800 RPM than at 6000. You are not even at the max torque at that point from what graphs I have seen in the past. thats jsut my two cents.

Any gains from manually shifting a n54/n55 versus letting the automatic do it will be small at best. As has been mentioned, the torque curve is flat and does not extend to red line and our ability to shift at exactly our target point is not foolproof. If it increases your enjoyment then by all means do it but I question how much faster you will be. Even with a n52, I wonder about the magnitude of the improvement with manual shifting an automatic for straight line acceleration.
I like manual shifting, that's why I drive a manual. But modern automatics do a pretty good job, especially the DCT. Jim
