wiring escort radar to fuse box

I've ordered the straight cord from Escort and intend to wire my 9500ix radar detector to the fuse box, which is behind the glove compartment in my 135i. I'm a mechanical novice. Has anyone done this? Is it hard for a mechanical know-nothing to do this? Can I mess up anything on the car? Any help will be appreciated. I really want to replace the coiled cord I have now that plugs into the lighter.

I used fuse #5, but simply just find one that works off of accessory power and route the cord appropriately.

My Redline has been find since.

You can pick up the add-a-fuse from autozone as well.

And if for any reason you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you can always have a reputable car stereo/alarm shop do it for you for $50-$70.

Mine came with the hard wire and an inline tube fuse in it. The end is male fuse end. I did a DIY on it. Check it out. Hope this helps.

I used a metal mounting visor bracket for a Corvette,

bent and drilled a little and made it fit. Then wired into mirror like this with the Invisicord. Works great. Pics not mine.

beaware that the space you reach your hand in behind the glove box is tight

also there are some sharp edges so be prepared to get a few scrapes and cuts on your fingers

While looking for the fuse connectors make sure you get a mini one. I think, if I remember correctly, the fuse i used, maybe slot 5, was a mini fuse. Not the normal size. Don't be worried. The fuse box is pretty easy and only takes a few mins.
