Noflash is right, other than Cali, most NE US states follow, including NY, NJ, New England, all in all encompassing a good portion of US population concentration.

Yeah, but probably just in the SAVs. It would be stunning if they released the 335d and 320d here. What a dramatic wake-up call to the rest of the industry. I understand the conservative nature of the BMW AG corporate philosophy, but it seems like a no-brainer, a huge publicity coup if not a big money maker initially.

That may change when sulfur content requirements are phased in NA. Then BMW can sell here their wonderfull diesels with the particle emission filters.

If they do, it would make sense to have those engines in the X familly. However, if they price the diesels in the stratosphere, like VW did with its V10 diesel, no one will buy one.

335(C)i will feature a 3.0L I6 2-stage turbo petrol engine. At least in non-US markets.

BMW AG marketing have still not decided whether to offer I6 turbo engine in US market. Decision will be made in early 2006. BMW NA have no official confirmation from BMW AG Munich yet what US market will get. All current BMW NA info are just pure speculations.

The current I6 NA engines will be upgraded in 2006 (328i).
If the turbo comes to US there is a slightly possibility it will come in a detuned version, but still badged 335i.
An upgraded 3.0L I6 NA engine can be also badged 335i (a possibility - not yet decided) if BMW decide not to bring turbo to US at this stage.

Next week: more news about 3er coupe and I6 turbo.

As I have said... since the very beginning... long before the land of TINE... BMW had successfully developed and was planning to bring a Twin Sequential Gas Turbo (based on the hugely successful diesel) to the US market. It was going to sit nicely between the 330i and the M3 as a sort of ZHP on steroids with 330-340hp.

Things changed.

I have agreed all along that the Euro market was likely to still get the Turbo.

BUT NOT THE US MARKET.

Sorry, but your sources don't seem to know the US market. Could BMW change their minds? Sure... anything is possible. But right now the inside word is 3.5L NA engine in the 335i/Ci (310hp) with a slightly tuned 3.0L in the 328i/Ci (235hp) and the M3 with a 4.0L V8 (407hp) w/ 7spd SMG (been saying that since the M5)

Coupe will start production first as an early MY07 in June... with the sedan following in Sept.

We will get a Turbo for MY07... in the X3/X5 3.0di... and that is all.

This is the inside word for BMW of NA.

You can disagree all you like, we will see soon enough what the deal is.

Speed, there is one HUGE counterargument against you and your source: there hasn't been any 3.5L I6 Na engine developed nor it is not in development at BMW. I know that for sure. Trust me.

I would be extremely surprised, indeed shocked, to see a 3.5 litre N52 variant. I would disappointed in the extreme if BMW NA does not trust the USA market to welcome the new turbo technology. And diesels, as soon as we get the proper fuel available. Look at the image boost Toyota has gotten from the hybrid. They are seen as a technology leader now, instead of a stodgy manufacturer of reliable boring vehicles. I bet they sell a lot more corollas and camrys because of the prius.
