Imagine if we had USA prices for cars...
I know the topic comes up all the times but imagine if we really did have USA pricing... It's not uncommon for people to spend 100k-150k on cars here, and some fork out 500k on a new ferrari or lambo. It got me thinking, would we all drive the same cars and just pay a LOT less or would it be like Dubai where we all roll around in Veyron's and Bentleys?
To be honest, the 135i is a great car but if it was 40k I'd rather spend 70k and get a R35 GTR and that would still be cheap! I'd go as far as saying I'd have 2-3 very very nice cars.. ah well I can keep dreaming |

Second ammendment rights. Health care. Separation of church and state. Education standards.
I'll pay more for my car.

I was going to go to Texas on a work visa recently. I had a budget of $A30K for a used vehicle which would have got me a low mileage, 2005+, well optioned Z4M/Boxster S/Cayman S/E46 M3. $5k more got me into a 911.

I'll add gun control and extreme inequality to that list too. I couldn't see myself living behind a high wall in a gated community, confined to certain parts of the city, worried about finding myself in the wrong place at the wrong time. |

I go to LA twice a year for work and my mate said we could get a 2006 Gallardo for $85K USD. I thought that was a great deal and he wanted to go halfs on it. Mmmmmmmmmmm unfortunately we found out that the clutch costs about $8K and needs to be replaced regularly. Running costs, insurance and maintenance steered us away. I think the GTR is a good option.

Agreed, we've got it pretty good here but my only gripe is the pricing for our cars. I'll keep on dreaming though.
+ 1 on a 1M matty. Not a bad car for 50k either A Gallardo for 85k would be a great deal too. Looks like we'd all be driving supercars! |

You have my mind racing on all the choices! I think I'd be sensible and not have a supercar, rather have something like a Cayman S and turbo it, or maybe a late model 911 Turbo. Although the GTR would be a consideration too! Would have also considered having the 135i but modding the crap out of it... Assuming we had US prices on parts too!

A 911 turbo would be sweet. I'd aim to have at least 1 supercar and pick up a 1M as a daily beater [/QUOTE] 1M as the run around. I'd be happy with that. |

Theres no doubt that we fork out slot more money for cars compare to the US. However you also have to consider the fact that there's a few other places like Malaysia and Singapore where it costs alot more to purchase a half decent car.
Let's be honest, there's enough beemers mercs around Australia. Te last thing we need is to drop our prices and make our car seem worthless. |

Yes I've heard Singapore costs are two or three times what we would pay out
But as for cars in the USA ... we could also complain about housing affordability eg one average house in the suburbs (Melbourne) would be worth two or more mansions in Los Angeles Otherwise, i feel we have it pretty good here down under. |
