I know what you are saying, and glad they took care of you. I will just leave it alone unless it gets really bad. It is my wifes car, and it does not bother her.

Good to hear!!! I will be covering my dash with a sun visor in efforts to prevent this condition from froming again... I'm not sure this will work, but it cant hurt...

Well.....It looks as if I am seeing 2 "indentations" AGAIN after 1 day. This may end up being worse than the first one after the heat gets to it even with a sun shield. I think I'm going to live with it? LOVE the new cubby and I really did get great service in Paducah KY.

Damn....I will just leave it, until they come out with a permanent fix...now I can just say that it is unique and stylish!

just got mine done. dropped it off Monday night, picked it up Tuesday night. No rattles, no scratches, great install job done.

The indentation isn't there anymore, but in certain lighting conditions I can start to see the beginning of the formation of it, pretty much at the same spots. However, for all purposes, it's still looking OK...for now.

The cubby is awesome however.

Yeah, sure it is.
There is a difference between, "common" and "normal".
Many times dealers with call a common problem, "normal".
No, it's not "normal".
Just because this design flaw is common certainly shouldn't mean it's normal.
"Normal" implies that it's part of the design. I highly doubt BMW designed this area to look like that. If they did, then they would/should have just created an outlined cutout, maybe with some slight trim around it, to make it obvious that it's normal.
This design looks like BMW tried to hide the airbag to make the dash look smooth. However, as you guys have shown, when this not normal condition becomes apparent, it looks way out of place and ugly.

Yet another interior cost cutting measure by BMW for the 1 series.
Too bad. So, it looks like there are a number of common problems in the 1 series, and dealers simply want to brainwash customers by telling them, "oh, it's NORMAL." Not good, BMW.

Glad I saw this thread...went to clean the car this a.m., and sure enough, I saw it and thought "who the heck scratched my dash and when?" I'll bring it up to service when I go in a few months for my yearly physical...

After thinking about this for a few days, I had the dealer here in Colorado look at my dash Indentation today and they agreed that it is an eye sore, commented that they had not seen anything like this before and ordered in a new dash which should be in sometime next week; all covered under warranty. No question the indentation appears worse in hotter temps and it does bother me. I have tried to live with it over the summer and finally had it. I pray there are no squeaks and rattles or a repeat indentation after the fact.

Thanks. It's "normal condition" according to Co's in Loveland.

you may have got the indentation back but probably you also get some of the "new-car-smell" with a new dash. that's a positive thing ;-)

I have the dash indentation but it's not that bad. I also notice that it gets worse with warmer weather.

Maybe an 135i dashboard emblem can be made to cover the indentation.

lol, all that work to take the dash apart and all they did was "adjust" the airbag?!?! Some dude probably just beat on it with a rubber mallet

Anywho, I'm one more member to the club. Saw my first signs of the indentation once the weather started getting really cold. I can only sum up my feeling about it as disappointment. This was my first bimmer and I was expecting perfection with this car, guess that was expecting too much

That's all that needs to be done. It seems the airbag just needs to be adjusted.
