performance mirror caps... where does this go?

I am working on installing my BMW CF mirror caps and found this in the box. It looks like it is some sort of weather stripping. I don't have instructions and finding any info or an in depth DIY is hard to come by so does anybody know where this is supposed to go? It may not be needed but I may as well install the mirror caps as BMW intended. I am having issues getting a perfect fit though and using this weather stripping will probably make fitment more difficult.
