135i vs E92 M3 in Pictures

Had a chance to put the two side by side at the M3 press launch at Laguna Seca today. The photos don't really show it but the 135i was visibly quite a bit shorter and (surprisingly) more muscular looking.

Thank goodness BMW is giving us some cars that aren't in Sedona Red. But, as I state in a comment on the BimmerFile post, I really think these photos highlight the lack of presence that the 135i has. I was expecting to be be blown away by the 135i at the LA Auto Show and I wasn't. Needless to say, the looks of the 135i are fading on me.

BUT, the 135i's looks was never a huge factor for me on this car. If it drives really well in my hands, it won't matter what it looks like on the outside. That's probably why the Z3 M Coupe is my favorite BMW....

If i didn't have to drive it all the time, i know which one I'd have, and it isn't a 135i. Hmm, maybe i should have gotten crimson. Uggh, Sedona is gonna be the death of me until it shows up.

Let's see some back-to-back races between the two!! We know the outcome but it would be fun to see.

^Seeing both M3's in person, I prefer the styling of the sedan over the coupe.

I love the M3 sedan. My progression will go like so: s2k-->135i--->M3 Sedan...thats unless BMW's performance 1 series get in the way..

No coupe for you? I thought that the M3 sedan looked pretty good but the M3 coupe is literally breathtaking. Of course, YMMV.

Nahh...sorry M. I like both but this is BMW's first M3 sedan in about a decade..I gotta have it. Plus, its nice to mix things up.

Btw, I can understand your statement about the car not having enough presense next to the //M. Its an M3....its doing its job aesthetically. I bet BMW can make a sweeet looking ''performance'' 1 series.

IMO i think BMW is creating quite a buzz with these performance coupes...

135,335,m3... all very well thought of machines.. i'd love to imagine myself "graduating" through the ranks..

Ohhhh... so tempting. The tii concept was really when I started to notice the lack of "presence" that the 135i has (again, in my opinion).

To be honest, I absolutely HATED the front of the Tii and I'm glad they're not making it. The rest of it was fine. I believe that lack of presence has to do with the stock height. A drop is in order. I mean look how low and sleek that M looks...

I won't necessarily disagree about the front end. But I love the purposeful, form-follows-function look of it. I also think that the rear end looked brilliant and I actually loved the stripes doing down the side.
