Can anyone see any reason why the Navigation CD couldn't be burned? That way the cost could be split...
Very easy to back up so in theory if you get a few to split the cost would be less of a hit. pm me if you need details on how to backup

The resultant disc that I created was indeed the BMW Pro NAV disc. However, it's unusable to me - I didn't realise it was the European version, no Australian maps present.

Happy to share the costs with others, if someone gets the upgrade let me know. I'm not paying $500+ for it. Typical greed strikes again, if it was $100-$200, I'd probably buy it, but now they're going to lose a sale and possible encourage piracy because someone's wanting to line their pockets.

Thanks dale bel but mine is built into the car and I aren't about to buy another. If needs be, I'll just put up with the 2008 version until I upgrade the wheels.

ok, so dumb question from a BM newb until my 125 gets here, the business nav (which I ordered) uses the DVD drive, and the pro uses HDD?

If thats the case, then I should definately expect a dvd with the car when it gets here (march). I can let you know the version if thread is still alive then.

good idea to back disk up, and store orig.

I also have a back up copy I use in the car. My original disk case has a sticker with my car's vin. I assumed that each disk may be specific for that vin only however, this may not be the case. Would be good to try someone else's copy disk to confirm whether it works.

oz125, don't know about the '09 versions, but the '08 versions both used DVD drive - just different discs.

DTNJNO, happy to send you a copy of mine if you want to try it (PM me with an address), but I suspect that was just management by the dealer to make sure the right client got the right disc. I can't see each disc being authored differently. A logistical nightmare. They're just trusting that we don't share discs. The European version that fell into my lap worked fine, if I wanted to drive to Europe, there just wasn't any Oz data on it, unfortunately.

SimonB thanks however, I have the business nav and don't think your Pro disc will work on mine.

I can confirm that it is not tied to your VIN, as another poster said it is just to tie it to the customer.

Also I can confirm that another DVD from a different car will work provided it is being used in the same type of navigation unit. Loan cars are a good way to test this..... and erm FYI.. an E60 DVD will work in an E70.... so I heard ..ahem
