Coolant - Can I top of with water

Hey Guys,

First, what type of coolant does the 1er use? And Second, can I top of with distilled water in a pinch?

I've also heard that any "corrosive free" coolant will suffice...not just the BMW brand.

Yes you can. I have done it before. But I also stick to the BMW coolant. I bought a coolant guage a while back for a couple bucks to check the floating balls to be sure the coolant/dist water mix is still reaching a good freeze temp for my climate zone should I ever need to add dist water. But mostly I just keep it 100% coolant.

I may need to add some tonight...but it's going to be a non-BMW coolant.
