1M Owners POLL
The purpose of this poll is to determine if BMW's goal to attract new buyers to the M division with a more affordable offering succeeded or is it maybe pulling existing M3/5/6 owners to a lighter smaller package.
For me I've owned several M cars over the years and was drawn to a smaller/lighter package.

Having driven everything ///M in the past I've decided to try out the baby in the pack.

i guess 2nd for me. Except i wasn't an existing M owner. I wanted the e9x M but it was too much of a GT car for me. $$ was just a bonus honestly. I wasn't even considering any other M car. I was going to go with the Evora S but the 1M was just as good for $30k less.

The M was just a natural progression, it embodies every reason I bought the 135 in the first place. I wasnt looking to buy a car, it was "limited" so I bought it. |

I would never have gotten an M3. It uses too much gas and I can rationalize getting a smaller car and keeping my awd 3 series (even though the 1M is 3 inches shorter 1 inch wider and 1 inch lower than my E46.)

I used to have a 335i and was planning on getting a M3. Then the 1M was announced and I was sold! I felt the e92 platform was too big and I had a 135i loaner and really liked the feel of the shorter wheelbase, so the decision on the 1M was easy.

Prior to the 1///M, a former E39 M5 owner, current 135i owner (though looks like she is a goner), a jump from ///M into a quattro GmbH offering (as didn't find appeal in ///M offerings at the time of purchase), and now that BMW has finally 'got it right', back on the tricolor bandwagon.

To me, the M brand has always distinguished BMW as one of the best in automotive world. "Trackable DD's", that require little [if any] performance modifications. As a kid growing up in 1986 (I was 10), I was goggly-eyed over the first M3. It was AWESOME!!! It seemed [to me] that BMW witheld the same concept(s) for the car all the way through the beginnings of the E46. At that time, I was only 24 and budding in my career; I still couldn't afford an M3 at that time (thank you college debt)! But with the E46, something changed. The car became more complex, more expensive, and despite the wild reviews over the SMG transmission, I wasn't impressed. I like a drivers car. One that you control, feel...everything! I liked simple. So I guess that's why I bought a Type-R. I wanted to track my car. I wanted a car with soul. I wanted a drivers car, without breaking the bank.
As BMW continued down the path of more and more, I was attracted less and less. I guess I just assumed that I could get something cheaper, and be just as happy. And I was...until now. The 1M for me, is everything that the old M3 was when I was a kid. I'm completely OBSESSED with this car. It's a true drivers car. It's back to the basics, yet still employs some advancements (which is to be expected of ANY good automaker). It's smaller, like the original M3. It doesn't have an SMG. It's something I can see myself working on during the weekends...those long summer days, washing, waxing, changing brake pads for an upcoming auto-x or track day. I love that BMW has gone back to basics with this car, and I hope that they've learned something from it. Final note: I'm so glad that I got rid of my STi. I was watching the US version of Top Gear the other day (when Tanner Foust is driving the STi), when Tanner said: "Subaru owners are unique......yet predictable. I can pretty much predict that your IT guy drives a WRX or an STi, and he honks and waves at other Surabru WRX's and STi's on the road". ^^ I don't want to be so easily labeled!!! Dammit!! ^^ 1M is value, performance, M...pretty much everything I've ever wanted since I was 10 years old. |

Second BMW (E91 330D M Sport was first), thus first ///M Car.
Always wanted an M3 however E92 has priced me out and has grown a bit too much for me. Have been tracking the 1 series since 2004 waiting for an M version and my wish came true the 1M. |

Always wanted an M3 since before I could drive. Unfortunately did not have the financial ability to pay for one.
Wasn't going to replace my car at the time, but the 1M limited nature and the fear that all future M's will be automatic made me pull the trigger early. |

First BMW for me. Having been a fan of the M3 when I was a kid, I felt the 1M was kind of a return to basics. Truth be told, about a year ago I started looking into buying a new car after my most recent deployment and came across the 135i. In doing research for the 135i I started stumbling across 1M rumors and this forum, and I knew I had to get it....
