Performance Gear Knob Install
Hey Guys,
Things have been quiet on the Africa forum lately huh.. Busy time of the year! Anyway, I just got the performance gear knob and alcantra boot to fit, anybody have an idea on how to do it? (Carbonic I know you've got one - any clues?) Cheers guys, take it easy.

Did you get the whole Short shift kit or just the boot + knob? How much did you pay?? Also, have you got a part number?
Please post some pics Thinking about getting this as well but not sure how it will look with the rest of the leather interior.. I want to get the short shift kit and was quoted R1888 for it including knob + boot + shorter arm + lever - PN: 25 11 0 444 657 It's best to get your dealer to do it for you, should take them an hour or so, but if you are keen to dabble in it yourself there is some info regarding the DIY on the site. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217401 |

Nah I just got the knob and the boot - I paid R1882.53!Didn't know that the short throw kit was the same price!
Its great that all the dealers are doing performance parts now! Here's the part numbers: 1) 25-11-0-429-269 for the gear knob 2) 25-11-0-435-580 for the alcantra boot I definitely will post pics

Oh in that case the knob and boot is easy to install!
Just pinch the existing boot inwards as to release the clips. The boot will come loose and the knob still be connected. Then just pull the knob up and it will come off. Make sure you remove the boot first otherwise the knob may rip off of the silver lock clamp thing. Then put the new boot + knob on! |

Nice one 135iFreak!
R1888 just for the knob+boot Quite expensive but looks nice! How do you like it compared to the ///M knob? I have the ///M knob but was unsure how it would look with the rest of my leather interior considering the boot is alacantre. |

Honestly speaking, i prefer the performance - it goes great with the brushed aluminium trim and Boston black leather and the entire feel of the performance is awesome(it's just a gear knob - I know - but each shift feels so much more direct and precise)! The ///M was great but now in comparison it felt chunky and somewhat clumsy on a shift! I'd recommend it over the ///M shift and definitely over the exclusive pack shifter
