Retrofit Factory Alarm Option 302 (for non pre-wired cars)

Not as simple as the no-brainer pre-wired scenario, nevertheless seems doable and described in this BMW EBA (install manual) document:

Not sure if BMW NA will support the delivery of needed retrofit kit #65122167739. Other possibly needed parts are detailed in the document.The story ends the same way as pre-wired: coding by your friendly neighborhood coder or the dealer (check around before you spending effort on ordering the kit).

Have ordered it, and will confirm once installed.

Checked availability of 65-12-2-167-739 and it doesn't look like its available, at least not in the US.
Searching the part number on RealOEM shows it only available on European vehicles. Google search of part number shows it available from European BMW dealers, approximately $322.
Also keep in mind that if the retrofit kit is not available the necessary software in ISTA/P for coding might not be available either.

Not knowing how proficient dealers are with NCS Expert coding; "only" VO/FA (Vehicle Option) code 302 must be added.

Good point about dealers most likely only being able to program what is released for the US (after) market, as this may be the biggest hurdle for having this done at the dealer.

Nevertheless, this is the DIY section and thus I'll try and detail the alarm specific coding part into this DIY as well. In Europe i was charged slightly over 200€ for the kit. I'll follow up on the build and programming based on a car bought in the US.

Any one heard of the DEFA DVS90 class 3 alarm system? Apparantly it is compatible with all brands, it is discrete and has level sensor (when car moved or lifted), movement sensor and glass breakage sensor.

I'd say it's a good sign, as one (of the many) connections needed for the retrofit is connecting to the mirror to make the red lamp below the rearview mirror work. Another easy hint for alarm pre-wired you'll find underneath the hood, right side, just behind the firewall at the upper rubber edge, there would be a tied up connector for the hood switch.

My estimate is that pre-wired will save you 4-5 hours (dis)assembly and wiring work (reduced to ~1-2 hours).

It's got all the basics equal to the factory alarm, but additional: notify you via mobile when alarm is triggered, and car locating! (when adding the dc20 tracking). Did you find any pricing?

Did you get to installing the alarm? Did you go aftermarket? I couldn't find a distributor outside of denmark for the DVS90 so I'm not sure if it is available!

Found it! about 500€ with installation in germany, same in switzerland.

This line from the manual "Route retrofit cable A along the vehicle wiring harness to the driver's footwell." will actually take you several hours as you need to take out the full dashboard to do it right. In all, I think it took me 10-12 of on the job hours and to not waist time on or even damage the panels, you will appreciate all the TIS (BMW install/assembly instructions) sheets referred to in the manual. If you're experienced with all interior panels and cable routing (my next time), it will take probably 7-8 hours. The dealer quoted ~10 hours. These estimates are without installing cables B & C which were pre-installed in the vehicle.

Between the posted 2009 manual and a mj2011 car, there is a significant difference at the fusebox layout; connecting to the alarm fuse number indicated on your fuse overview sheet.

A final beginners learning while coding, make sure car has ignition on (not just key in) when you process the whole car, this to avoid communication errors from the otherwise un-powered DSC module. At least code CAS, NFRM, DWAI and DWAS modules after FA_Write: mine worked with adding $302, but officially retrofit should be entered as +K302. FZD is only related if you wire the Mirror LED to that module (The manual specifies a direct wiring to the mirror connector).

On model year 11&12 and later OEM Alarm is fuse #54 (Alarm only, installed during retrofit) & 62 (factory installed, probably shared with other functions)

- The OP E82 dedicated manual turned out to be missing the instructions for wiring the continuous supply for the mirror alarm LED (Pin8-PlugX14292, 30<63 RT/VI, Red/Violet). For the alarm LED we need this supply to be available without ignition on, thus from terminal 30 (terminal 15 only works with ignition on). Oddly in the E9X alarm install material this connection is part of the retrofit wire loom and specified in the manual. Final option if you want to minimize your wiring, you could probably wire from the Pin1-PlugX13084, 30_RLS, RT/VI, Red/Violet which is also a terminal 30 for supply to the rain sensor at the windshield, right next to the base of the interior mirror.



- According to the attached WDS12 E82 Antitheft alarm system, the 2 CANBUS connections that the manual suggest to wire all the way from the DWAI rear roof center to the Junction box (as part of the wire loom) can also be connected nearby to the FZD Pin9-PlugX14289 OR/GR, K_CAN_H and Pin10-PlugX14289, GR, K_CAN_L.

Coding the FZD module (roof module) is not required. Contrary to the retrofit manual, according to WDS, the alarm LED signal (DWAL, GR/SW, Gray/Black cable) can be wired into the FZD Pin12-PlugX14289 but this is hardwired to output Pin13-PlugX14288. The OP manual actually wires the Alarm LED signal straight to the interior mirror Pin9-PlugX14292.

Mine (as described above) is a successful install of a euro retrofit kit on a US E82 of 2011.
