Only the typical 4. Anyway I am going to downgrade the firmware and see whether I can get back bmw online and internet. And will try to change the area code again.

I have about twenty DVDs in the car. Two of them didn't play before coding and play after.
I'll try to bring another DVDs with different region code from home and test them tomorrow.
I have tried several disks today (0, 1, 2, 5 regions).
NBT plays them all.

Hmm, so maybe all check-boxes are needed.

Not necessarily. It depends on the update itself.

Assuming you have an ECU that has been flashed with new firmware, the update could be seen:
  • Immediately with original FA and VO Coding.
  • Only after FA Build Date (zeitkriterium) change and VO Coding.
  • Only after FA Build Date (zeitkriterium) change, and Option Code change, and VO Coding.
And keep in mind too that sometimes using a newer FA Build Date for VO Coding can cause issues due to the resulting coding being incompatible with older hardware.

Enable Park Assistant with Driver Assistant package and X-Drive

In the 5, 6, and 7 series cars with Driver Assistant packages, it also includes Park Assistant (where the car parallel parks itself). For the cars that also have X-Drive this feature is not included with the DA package. Wonder if it would be possible to code this option to show up in the parking menu?

I doubt it will work as I think it requires additional hardware, but you could add 5DP Park Assist to your FA and code the car and see what happens.

Are there instructions for how I might do this to try it out?

Yes, all over this forum in numerous threads.

It is no different than adding EBT as explained here, except you are adding 5DP instead of 6NS:

Quote:
Step 1. Change FA from 6NH to 6NS:
E-Sys - How to change FA in F-series car.pdf
Step 2. VO Code Head Unit
Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read SVT (VCM) => Right-Click on HU_NBT (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) => Select CODE.
* Note: 6NS is used for NBT Head Units with build date >= 07/13. For older NBT Head units and CIC Head Units, use 6NK or 6NL if car is equipped with BMW Assist.

I just can't understand why I need "Immediately with original FA and VO coding" to see any upgrade.

Isn't it already done when service upgrades the car to the new firmware?

Thanks in advance,

Yes. I didn't say it was you that had to VO Code it. After ISTA/P flashes the ECU, it is then encodes it according to FA. So, it is VO Coded as I wrote, but by the dealer.

So shawn, When they upgrade the ISTEP on the older cars, they use a common firmware for all hardware variances and depending on the FA/Build Date, portion of the firmware gets enabled depending on this? Is that correct?

The ECU will get the highest firmware it can support, which may be lower than a newer version of the same ECU. But no matter which firmware it gets, the subsequent individual FDL codings carried out during VO Coding are dependent on the FA Date.
