Since this car is coming 2 years after the 135i, it can't have a long production cycle, knowing this, if they price it around 50k with very limited production, no one would actually be driving one for MSRP - so they most likely paid 53-55k, and if thats the case, why not haggle on a 2009 (or 2010 by the time the "M1" comes out) M3, and get it cheaper?

I could be totally off, but I really think this car will be mid 40's if it's low production. Either way, all units will sell if it's limited, even if it's 50k, but I can't see BMW pricing this car that close to the 335is, and only 5-6k under the M3...

45k =

50k+ =
good points. I guess I assumed if it was in the mid $40's it would cut heavily into the 335 market but also if it's limited production then that might be their strategy against that happening. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

a loaded M3 is north of 70k. i think a loaded M1 in the 50s would be ideal for the market, hopefully.

i guess time hasn't flied that fast on the 1. i just remember seeing it for a long time.

that's right. i saw my first 1-series in Germany in hatchback form back in 2005. the front end, headlights are the same as our coupe here in the states. that's what made me think it's been out for a long time. but man, if they introduce it in 2012, i still hope it'll have a somewhat facelift on it...

The M1 (E82) looks very much like M3 (E46): I6, RWD, same weight if not lighter, same power if not more, same chassis if not better. The only diference is FI. It looks like a better M3 (E46). Can't wait for the limited version M1 CSL (E82), could be a better M3 CSL (E46) and do the N-Ring in 7:40 min. Imagine this for a simple BMW 1 Series!
No offense, but i think ur really off on this one... first off the e46 m3 is lighter than the 135i stock v stock.. ok so as the trend seems to continue, all the m-versions of these newer e90's + are heavier... therefore the M1 with a i4 might be lighter but not significantly.

As for power, Im not so sure if BMW will be able to push over 340HP with a single turbo I4... but we will see about the motor later..

and... the chassis is completely different also. The M1 WILL not run a 7:40... comon... be real. The e92 m3 only runs a 8.05, and it has already been stated that the M1 will not surpass the m3 in any performance category.

And to say these two cars look the same i would have to strongly disagree.

But with saying that, I think the M1 will be a great car, and i cannot wait for it to release. It will be tearing the competition up on the track for sure...

I have to disagree with you. The rear lights of the 1 series draws quite a strong resemblance to the E46.

Thanks for the pics. They just show how resemblant they are. Both M3 (E46) and 135i (E82) weigh 1560 kg (EU).

the left side cutout is larger because its the same bumber as the previous spy pics with the single exhaust, the quad exhaust was relocated so the left side exhaust needed to be moved over alittle to compensate with the right side exhaust. and the rear quater panel still has that rivitted cover.

I'm not sure that threatening to buy a more expensive (and no doubt more profitable) car from them is all that effective a protest.

A nicely loaded 135i is approx $45k, add $10k = $55k Let's hope you are right.

For me it's not about the money, it's about the experience. The 1 series reminds me of the e46 M3.

No one is protesting, and BMW set the price on this gem before we even saw the first teaser.

Who said I would buy the M3 new? Plus, BMW does not want a repeat of the Z4M. They slashed prices on that car hardcore.

Good on ya, we heard you the tenth time already. It seems you are too lazy:

Akrapovic Ti Evo

Hard facts:

plus 24 HP (at 4620 Rpm)
plus 35 Nm (at 4890 Rpm)
minus 23 kg (when compared with stock)

e92 330i pipe

Rear silencer with exhaust flap 18 30 7 566 936

1 12.793 kg / 28.204 lb

e92 m3 pipe

Rear silencer 18 30 7 840 791

1 24.500 kg / 54.013 lb

SHOCK HORROR, 12 kgs down low at the opposite end to a 200kg engine...Yeah, damn quads weigh TOO MUCH.

You can keep your stock system and continue whinging, I'll be investing in Ti.

Just a side comment

Why do they put like half camouflage?
Like why not keep the ENTIRE car in camouflage till its released..
Why gradually strip it away.......

Because there is nothing to hide up top, it is the same as a 135i.

Maybe BMW won't F this thing up after all. They just need to shoehorn a modified N55 with twin turbos pushing 380-400 bhp. I think I will stay with SGM color and opt for the 7 speed DCT. Needless to say a Dinan Boost upgrade will be a must!!!

So far so good BMW
