So.....N55+DCT+DP = N54+JB3+DR's?? C'mon man. Don't forget that the JB's are weaker on N55's vs 54's.

yeah that actually makes sense.
n55/jb3/dp's/dtc > n54/jb3/dp's/step or man |

No, actually it doesn't. N55's have never been faster than the n54, all things equal. Remember the n55 JB is not as powerful as the N54 JB. Did this change as of late? Please point me to that info if so and I'll eat my words.

again, i don't know cuz I don't run that specific tune but I can tell you the N55 is pushing LOTS of torque right off the bat and my 1/2 tuned N55 w/ dp's and axleback made more torque than a fully tuned N54 jb4 w/ dp's and FMIC on a dyno.

factor in a few tenths of a second off from the fast DCT shifts and you could easily be looking at a 12 flat 1/4 mile

That is assuming you are already at low 12's to begin with. And that doesn't seem possible in the configuration the OP's car was in. Period.

thats a legitimate point about the OP's car, very true. However I don't think you can go as far as inferring the N55 isn't as fast as the N54... at this point with what has been put up in numbers that I've seen they are pretty damn close and supposedly there is still a little power left in the N55 to be found.

I would just like to see it for myself (at least dyno's back to back etc.) That's how things become official around here lol.
If it is true, then there wouldn't be a thread for "worlds quickest n55" for only running 12.1 . It would be a faster time. I just found this: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12171 (Check out the title too ) So it was Terry that did it, and I trust him so I suppose it's official. However, up until yesterday Terry believed this:

I'm not a hater, I love all good cars, and I am glad that performance of the 1er seems like it isn't hindered with the engine change. It's good to be in any JB'd 1er. be it n54/n55.

You guys have to remember this is a quarter mile. This is not some highway race.
Enzo Ferrari was once quoted as saying "Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races". Torque is a much better number for drag racing hands down IF there is sufficient HP. The reason being is that with higher torque cars you will see more HP throughout the RPM range. I am going to show you guys two graphs just so that you get an idea about what makes the N55 such an amazing engine, and in Shiv's words better than the N54 in many aspects. Below are two dyno charts Chart 1 2008 E90 335i AMS Intercooler AMS Catback Exhaust VK Downpipes CP-E Charge pipe/Tial BOV DCI 3 Runs with PROcede v4 Autotuning 100 octane (19psi) 3 Runs with JB3 dynos on Map 7 on Pump Gas. (15-16psi) Chart 2 N55 135 w/7DTC 91oct Vishnu Procede v5 Vishnu DP Vishnu Large charge pipe Cat-back Now these cars are the closest I could find to similar mods. Obviously the N54 running 100 octane is going to make a huge difference. Please note that the N55 is running less than 15psi. Chart 1 3.0 - 220 3.5 - 250 4.0 - 280 4.5 - 320 5.0 - 360 5.5 - 380 6.0 - 380 Chart 2 3.0 - 230 (+10) 3.5 - 260 (+10) 4.0 - 295 (+15) 4.5 - 350 (+30) 5.0 - 360 (+0) 5.5 - 355 (-25) 6.0 - 340 (-40) So even though the JB3 is running more more psi and pulling 25 more peak HP..throughout the RPM band the N55 holds its ground all the way until the last 1000 RPM's. I just think that is worth noting. Now put that together with the DCT.

Corrected #s for RPM/sensor issues from dyno (wasn't calcuating HP properly) on BLUE run. of course since the print out is off everyone will call it a wash since its not legit evidence but still... just showing at least TQ is just as high. This was the corrections made for the N54 that dyno'd right before me. His 2 runs (didn't post his actual dyno graph) |
