Wheel Wax

Does wheel wax really help with brake dust and how long does it last. I have bright silver painted wheels and I also need to know if it adds a good shine to the wheel. Opinions please.

My experience with Wheel Wax is that it's useless, carnauba melts around 200 degrees F and even casually driven cars get their wheels that hot every drive. I have had great luck with a synthetic sealant like Menzerna Power Lock or Blackfire Wet Diamond followed by (and this takes faith) Armor All Wheel Protectant. The sealant will add protection and a bit of shine and the AA keeps the dust down between washes.

Armor All brake dust repelent works much better than wheel wax and less work too. I know because I had tried both.

I haven't had great luck with wheel wax. I definitely didn't see any noticeable improvement with it repelling dust, and I still have to give the wheels a good going over with a brush to get the dust off.

I'm going to try a paint sealant next time and see how it goes.

I also found it a bit difficult to apply - you don't seem to get a lot of time between when it's dry enough to remove and when it's dried too much and requires a lot of work to remove.

I use Griots paint sealant on my wheels. Works great, but I need to try this AA stuff.

The Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant is a great option. It has a very high melting point so it can better resist the high temperature brake dust and contaminants on the surface. +1 to armor all. It just works. I dont get to clean my car much and I would say it takes about 2 months of driving to accumulate the same amount of dust as 1 week without it.

Not all wheel waxes are the same and every product is different. Just depends on what you are expecting out of it. I use the DP brand wheel wax and notice a signifcant easier time cleaning the wheels. the second water hits the rim the rim is nearly clean and if i take a MF clith to it its spotless. I dont even have to wash them. It does a better job of making the dust not stick to the wheel rather then repelling it. Its hard to explain. I like it and the extra 5 minutes it takes every other wash to apply is worth the trouble.
