Okay. I was browsing new posts, and this one stopped me dead in my tracks. Hats off to you, sir, for a very cool project.
Two Words: DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER! I realize as I write this that it probably sounds silly - and it's a dumb thing to complain about - but I really, really miss the digital speedometer in my old Boxster. I had hopes that a DS might be one of the many displays you can cycle through the 1-series console. No such luck. So... my 2-cents: Would you consider tossing in a digital speedometer (MPH/KPH) while you are at it...?

I will put a numeric indicator on that and update the picture just to show you. and I appreciate the input, just remember I have been doing this for years, so nothing you see here is new to me. Nothing here is impressive until its installed on the BMW and working. I also need to know how many pulses per minute the speed sensor is anyone want to help? David |

Here is quick digital indicator.
The style is limitless. To try and to match the design of the gauges that I set for this project I just did a red digital italic display in the bottom of the gauge. |

Super cool... Keep up the good work, I'd definitely be interested in getting something like this if the cost is reasonable.

as I have updates I will post them. Once I have more info on the sensors of the engine I will have everything hookedup to the laptop, I will take some vids/pics. Once its all working I will do the final stage which will be converting the pc signal to nav through some 3rd party device. I have the boost signal now, still need the rest and to do more software code work as well.

This is cool. I am also excited about this too. Not only for the gauge pack but having a carputer interface with the idrive screen makes for a whole host of possibilites such as Valentine 1 / Trapster interface and really anything else.
David it would be neat if you were able to replicate the layout of the Nissan's computer as it was designed by the Gran Turismo dev team. Also, would it be possible to control this via the idrive controls/steering wheel buttons? Keep up the good work.

I am working on this project in my spare time right now (which is limited). We are preparing for the launch of our new product and that has been taking alot of my time. I do have my boost signal and I know how to get the RPM at this point.
The biggest hurdle is to get a vga to rgb converter. David |

This is amazing! I have been saying that a boost gauge should pop up on the I-drive screen for years. Now you have a shit load of gauges! I am already interested. I have 2 laptops laying around that I would gladly put in my 1er when it gets here.
Also, would just a hard drive work? Like, maybe the hard drive that's already in the 09's? You don't have to tap into the vacuum hoses to get the boost levels like a normal boost gauge do you? I'm sure that as soon as your 100% done with this product, you will have a ton of people from this site and e90post ordering this from you, as long as it doesn't cost an arm and leg of course. Hats off to you my friend! Good work! Now let's see a working product.

Our controller that reads your sensors is not very expensive. Assuming the customer has a laptop/carputer the only other thing you will need is the rgb converter. I dont know what the vga to rgb converter quality will be like. this is the biggest unknown that I have. With our smart controller instead of taping the vacuum hose you simply will connect your map sensor to it. It has a voltage range, you set the boost based on the range and the gauge will display boost accurately.. A hard drive will not work. You need windows operating system (32 bit and higher). |

That's a great idea. I Wish I would have either seen this thread or thought about it myself before ordering; I would have ordered Nav just for this and would be trying to setup my own. I swore off in-car nav prior to this - now I'm going to make sure I order it on my next car just to do something like this.
There's a lot of potential for a great product here. All 1/2/5/7/M/X/Z/etc BMWs likely use the same hardware for the nav (or something VERY similar) and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a fairly standard setup that could cross over easily to other brands. If you were able to throw together a standalone unit (there are some hardware solutions out there already that would work nicely at relatively low cost) I could easily see you selling a TON of these. The laptop requirement is a good first step but most people will hold off for a standalone unit. |

Also now with the BT scan tool available and near real time value reports would that make the integration slightly simpler for this type of application?

This is incredible, I mean the range of possibilities here. I think that a Valentine 1 display added in would be a big benefit. If you are watching the boost and G levels someone has to be watching for the police.
