List of BBK's available for 1ers?

It seems that it's an extremely limited selection so far

At the moment i've found

Brembo 6pot 355mm - $3600
Stoptech 6pot 355mm - $3200
AP racing 6Pot 355mm - $3100

they're pretty much all the ['big name' brands and realistically, they're all pretty much identically priced

then there's the general taiwanese brands (ksport/xyz) at about $2k for the same setup

then Nashin (supposedly better than ksport etc.) for $1800ish but you get no choice in rotor or pad...

anything else anyone can add to this list

I'd like a proper BBK under $3,000, partly for the thought of it more than actual price (even $2,999 haha), but i want some free choice in at least my pads if i find i want less dust/more brake force/higher temp/price etc.

thanks

Garage List
If MSRP on the stoptech is $3200 you can most likely get it for under 3k then. But shipping to Australia would be pretty big.

Which vendors are selling the AP Racing BBK? I could not find anyone selling it.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a BBK shortly.

Also the Stoptech come in 2 versions, there is a base spec and the Trophy spec.

Haven't looked into the Trophy too much but it weighs a lot less and costs a lot more.

$750 more yep

Barely lighter

Mostly cosmetic (very pretty)

Cheapest i've found for stoptech on google is about $3200 (2k GBP ish from the UK)

I'll post links to ap racing soon, you can find it for 'e92 335i' more easiy (all bolts on the same)

It's just brake pad and rotor time for me so may as well go big (considering how pricey OE replacement stuff is!

Shipping from just about anywhere i think would be $2xx or so?

I was quoted $752.15 to ship the Stoptech BBK...

Waiting to hear back if they can better it.

WHAT?

No freakin way

You can get a set of coilovers for a couple hundred$ an they wouldn't weigh literally half as much. And be physically smaller.

The package for a set f brakes is pretty small at least?

I was told front BBK comes in 2 boxes. I played around with a shipping calculator on shipito.com and it works out more expensive if you add the boxes together in volume/weight, whereas if you ship them separately it would be much cheaper. Have received cheaper quotes for shipping BBK elsewhere though, this is by far the most expensive.

15 inches cube? ok that's a pretty big cube lol

,... well aus post to america quotes $200 for 20kg by sea mail, so this is now sounding reasonable

but still, that's $400 for both parcels (or less) private.. most big companies get 30-50% discounds with bulk freight, so i'd push for sub $300 for the front kit!

Just hope I'm not getting stung on the shipping charges. I know some companies inflate shipping charges to make a few extra $$$.

Yeah.. 20% odd

So say i can find a kit for $3k, $300 in shipping and.. Yeah $3960 pretty easily..

The thought of this is saddening.. But do it once to it right. >_<

And if you wanted it domestically, you'd bet on $6k at a minimum

Birds Tuning here in the UK sells a custom AP Racing BBK for the 1 Series.

UK retail price is £2125 which probably includes our VAT at 20%, so you can likely take 20% of that price before adding shipping out to Aus + your import taxes etc.,etc.

Don't go for the cheap BBK. If you can't afford one of the three you mentioned then you are better off upgrading your stock set up. I've run rotora and Brembo and the Brembo's are a night and day difference.

Get the rotora's / ksport if you are into poor pad selection and pulsating brakes.

Poor pad selection? They take any hawk/ferodo etc. that's the only thing that appeals to me

Pulsating brakes? That's something that didn't come up on google

Isn't the rotora's the one on the Berk 135i car? With all the track time that car gets, I'm sure there is some evidence to suggest that they are ok, right?

I don't know. Maybe the fact that they dumped the Rotora's for Performance Friction BBK's back in 2010 tells you something?

Yup, but they seem to have swapped out to.. Performance friction

Rotoras seem to be about $2700
Performance friction at 3500+ (4k even maybe?)? Idk they're hard to find, will search more later
Too high maint/complex for me, 1 pad per piston, 4 pot fronts (355mm) and apparently 371mm rear? I'm so confused as that would TRASH brake balance.

Well they chose rotora over stoptech and brembo (and oem)... Performance friction is also PRICED above all others..

You talking about Rotora? I ran them, I know what the selection is like and no they will not take any hawk or ferodo (FC-6), unless they've changed design in the last couple of years. Same is true for the rotor rings. I also know that they vibrate. Before I bought them a i was warned by a local tuner (Mach 5) that they are known to vibrate/pulsate. Sure enough 10K miles in and it happened to me.

Also, their poor (none existent) customer service is legendary.

You can do whatever you want, go cheap on BBK, it's your dime. But don't say you weren't warned.
