Euro style license plates?

Are they legal in the states and where can I find them?

Yes, they are legal. A car registered in Europe can use European plates for up to 1 year in the U.S. in most states.

I guess the question I should have asked is that if I have regular state plates and wanted Euro plates could that be done? If not for both front and rear at least as a vanity plate for the front....did that all sound right?

Oh, OK. The answer is "not legally". If you are in a state which doesn´t require front plate, you could have a European front plate there. That is about as far as you can go.

Did you try doing a search in Google?
This is what I came up with:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

BTW, the custom made ones look fake to me. If anything, I would buy a used authentic plate if anything.

Or do European Delivery in which case you would have export plates (see image of my car).

Just for everyone´s edification, export license plates are being sold on eBay from $5 (newer) to $10 (older, pre-1988 oval) plus shipping.

Not to Ska and Govtec

I wouldn´t recommend selling your second plate. What is someone lifts your first one or it becomes damaged? You´ll kick yourselves later.

Besides - note to those wanting German plates - full sized used German plates (Ausfuhrkennzeichnen are not full sized) are readily availabl on eBay as are frames.

I just noticed how unlike BMW vehicles, Mercedes C-series (and probably others made in the US) do not have large enough recesses to accomodate a Euro Plate.

Not really true as the 5 and 7 series in U.S. guise also cannot handle an EU license plate. On the other hand, I have seen Mercedes C's in Europe which do have EU plates so it's not all C's.

I didn't say what I meant. I had the e90s only in mind when I typed "BMW."

Nonetheless, your observation is interesting. Are the American 5 and 7 series made in the US? I know that none of the e90s are made here (US).
