Looking for insight about Hawk HP+ pads
Guys, as the title says.
Since in most, if not all places the Ferodo DS2500's are on back order for our 1er's, I wanted to hear from people that have had Hawk HP+ pads and used them as both daily drivers and track events (Circuits/Autocross) pads. What did you like/not like about them, initial bite and performance in hard usage and occasional driving. I currently have Cool Carbons but on track after they heat up I get a bit of shudder under hard braking, and that I really don't want while on the 'ring or Hockenheim. Also, has anyone ever changed just the front pads for track and left the rear pads the same? If you know of other pads I am also open to different ideas, suggestions or advice. Thanks Nick P.S.: I did do this but wanted to get a bit better insight and opinions.

HP+ is noisy for daily driving. It warms up fast, so it's popular for autocross. Maximum heat tolerance is not high enough for DE. It will start fading at lower temp than Cool Carbon, but doesn't have the problem with deposits.
Another one to consider for temporary dual use is DTC-30. It has much better max heat tolerance than HP+ and more bite. When I tried DTC-30, I got no noise and medium dust, but Hawk describes them as medium noise and very high dust, so probably not something to use permanently for daily driving. |

Oops, I forgot to answer this part. I've done it for DE and learned my lesson. Back end wiggles around under threshold braking, trail braking is hard to manage, and since the front pads keep working without fade, eventually the rear pads disintegrate from the heat.

Thanks for the info Gary. Do you know of other pads by any chance?

like the other guys said the HP+ will be pretty loud for daily driving. if you are a light braker on the street they will probably make more noise than you are looking for. the HP+ will have better sustained braking than the HPS. I am running the HPS for autoX because i DD my car, but i will probably go with something more aggressive when these die. the HPS has good initial bite, but then it falls off a bit.
a few guys i autoX with are using the new EBC Yellow compound and they have been very happy with it. from what they have said they are loud for the first few hundred miles of street driving but then then quiet down. hope that helps.

I switched to HP+ last yr. on fronts for 2 HPDE events @ Mid-Ohio. I left them on for street driving for about a month after that. Using slotted rotors in front, but rear is stock for pads and rotors. Great grab on track with no fade. No problem on street either, even with dropping ambient temperatures in the fall. No problem with my stock Brembo six piston calipers either.

If you are going to continue to track your car and as you get better you will need brakes that can withstand higher temps. You will soon start to melt HP+. I learned this the hard way a few years back by ruining two sets of HP+ pad and two sets of rotors in onlyl two track events. Hawk DTC is what I would recommend. I run DTC-60 all around but some run 70's up front and 60's in back. It only takes 30 mins to change brakes all around so I feel it is well worth it!
