Agreed. I personally feel the E82 is a blend of the e30 and modernism.

I would rather keep the money and roll the dice on whether I will need money for expensive repairs. I have owned over two dozen cars and haven't been bitten yet.
Mine has already paid for itself, brand new BMW trans was dropped in a month ago. Out of pocket expense for me - $100. Total cost to warrany - $5,260.

From a financial perspective, I don't see how a new car ever makes sense over repairing a car you already own outright. Sure, you might have a repair bill that exceeds the monthly payment on a new car - it might even exceed two or three months' worth of payments. But it is never going to cost you $40,000, which is what a new, replacement BMW is going to cost you (at least).

To me it makes perfect sense to buy a used 1er either CPO or get an extended warranty. You don't know for sure how that car has been treated, no matter what CarFax or anybody else says, including service records, which might only tell part of the story. There's a multitude of things that could have been done (or not done that should've been) and could have gone wrong, including the possibility of unreported accidents. Also, sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. In the case of Matticus91, it worked out perfect for him. He saved approx. $5000 bucks so far.

In my case I bought my car new and chose not to get an extended warranty and have owned the car for more than six years and have not had any real problems. Granted, I don't have a ton of miles (approx. 30K), but also, and of great importance to me, I know everything that has been done to my car and how it's been treated, so even though I'm taking a risk not buying an extended warranty, it's an educated risk that has so far worked out in my favor.

My personal order of these cars by looks from favorite to least is:

1. E30
2. E46
3. E82
4. 2002

The E46 has always been my favorite looking BMW but it looks just a tad too big these days to me. The E30 looks just perfect imo, but I'll take my modern BMW over all of them. Does everything right as far as I'm concerned. Drives great, is safe enough, and looks awesome.

I agree 100%. I would never buy a new car just because my current one needed an expensive repair, especially if that repair was because a major part failed. A serious accident would be another story because possibly my car would never be the same. My car does everything I want and is perfect for me. A new BMW (if I chose a BMW) would be much more expensive than a repair, and more important, would not be everything my 1er is. It's true (to me) that they just don't make them like they used to... as long as you don't go farther back than the E82. Haha (kidding)
