Door Jamb FROZEN!!!

We were hit with some super cold weather and winds where I live. We are at temperatures of -29C or -20F.

I got a car wash last night and I guess that was the culprit. My door jamb on my passenger side froze! I've attached a picture of where I mean by the 'door jamb'.

To fix this so that I could drive, I poured some hot water into a cup and poured a little bit of water into the area to melt the ice. I was then able to close the door - YAY!

However, I am now beginning to wonder if I did the right thing. By pouring water down into that area, will I risk damaging any electronics, creating rust issues, etc.?

Maybe some kind of heat gun or hair dryer would be better next time.

Don't know for sure what's in there. Maybe someone who does will respond.

I guess you poured water into a hole in the door:

You need to keep things lubricated, man...

I've had this happen many times in the Winter, but it was caused by the rubber door seals. I have a bottle of BMW Gummi-Pflege, works well and smells like a brand new car. For door locks, you could use some oil.

Yeah...I would avoid pouring water into the latch of my door. I am sure it will freeze solid now, but in the spring you might hear it sloshing around. Guess you could drill a hole to let it out. Or you could just park with that door in the sun until it evaporates out.

Good luck and Peace

What is this BMW gummi-pflege? Is this something I could buy from the dealership? And would WD-40 work in the door latch or should I be using different type of oil/lube?

Water goes inside the door when it rains anyways.. you would be surprised how much makes it past the window seals. There are drain holes on the door for this that lead to the door jamb and out under the door.

You should be fine

WD 40 (Water Displacement)

Many of us use Gummi Pflege on rubber (Bav Auto) but sure Cdn Tire has something for rubber weatherstripping.
