So for me, I bought the car used. Yes I knew it wasn't being made anymore but being a car guy, I knew the 135is had the same amount of power (not the torque maybe) as the incoming M235i and actually preferred the look of the 1 over the 2. The 2 looks great though. Whatever is under the 135 is still generally in use by BMW (engine, drivetrain etc.) which means it's still a very relevant car IMO. I would love to get an M2 at some point, but the "is" will end up still sitting next to it. Very fun and tight car to drive. I think if you are an enthusiast, you know what to look for. I ended up selling my highly modified Mustang for a premium because a buyer knew what was in it, and it was car show clean. Dealers don't want to mess with that so turn you away with low numbers.

You can say bullshit all you want. I know what my experience has been. The buying service beat out Carmax's offer by $1100 on my 94 Z28.

If you read my other post, I did mention one I used. We Buy Any Cars.

So I call bullshit about your appraisals. How about that.

In case you have a hard time finding where I mentioned the buying service I used:

I must be looking in all the wrong places because every dealership says they will typically at least match Carmax offered price. And I think I look at a lot of cars. Women like to window shop, I like to look at and test drive cars. I even buy some of them.

This is why I've come to the terms of keeping my 1er. Spend all those years paying it off and it's now worth $14k.

It'll make a great track car in the future when self driving cars take over.

Of course every dealership will say they'll match Carmax's offer when in my experience they're not that great. Just look at my personal experience. I sold off my 94 Z28 to We Buy Any Cars back in 2014. When I mention I got $1100 more on that car than what Carmax offered, this needs to be taken into context on the age of my car. For my car being that old and We Buy Any Cars offering such a big difference in price, says something. I suspect if I had a much newer car the differential might be even bigger.

I love my car. I am glad I bought it new and plan to keep it for the long haul. I will let whoever settles my estate worry about what to do with it after I am gone.

Tempting. She can wait until she gets her learners permit in a year.

She thinks she is learning on the roadster. Maybe. Why not, it has a whopping 62k on it. It probably depreciated to near zero by now.

OP, my wife occasionally reminds me how much she liked the 04 GTO 6M. Sold it to a friends son. Afraid to ask where it is now.

Doesn't faze me. But thanks for the lead, I'm trying to get rid of my first one right now.

I don't know why this seems like it's news to most people in this thread? Whenever you purchase a new or newer car, the tax is an immediate sunk cost. Unless you make a large enough down payment, the vast majority of people are under water off the bat.

This is why it's actually far better to finance your car at a low interest rate than to pay cash for the depreciating asset. Finance it at a favorable rate and you can take the initial cash outlay and invest it in something that's actually going to earn a return as opposed to the car which takes a 10% hit or more as soon as you drive it off the lot.

Try the KBB instant cash offer. Used them twice I always got what was offered.

One other thing than no one has mentioned yet is the manual transmission. Both NADA and KBB translate the manual transmission to equal a $750 to $1,000 valuation hit in comparison to an automatic. For that reason alone, I think you're better off selling private party.
I've never messed with Carmax, as the closest one is 3+ hours away from me and a new one, 30 minutes away, is just about to open their doors or already have. I could only assume that its just a used car lot, just more successful and Country wide. So you trade your car in to buy a used car from them. But we'll visit them too and see what they will offer.

I remember years ago when a manual option was $XXX off. Now, you pay for the manual option.

May be different in different states but here in Colorado, trading in a car can be beneficial as the sales tax is based on the difference between the price of the new car and the trade in value.

Here in CO, was the same in NY. Probably the same in your state if you look it up. One pays sales tax on the difference between what they traded in and the cost of the new car.

Definitely not something most here would like. Either an Infiniti QX30 or Q50 both very similarly priced. Dealership is giving me the most for the car out of 6 or 7 dealerships I've looked at. Surprise, BMW lowballed me the most out of any dealership I visited.

If the terms hold up and the dealership honors what they've been telling me over the last few days, I'm gonna say goodbye to my 135i tonight.

I love the car, but I'm officially sick of all these repairs. With the amount of things that have gone wrong with this car, I could've bought a M3 instead

What year is your car and how many miles? I'm an appraiser for a large car dealership in south Florida. I can probably give some insight as to why they offered what they offered.

The fact is, if they gave you a number, and only bumped it $600, they were probably all in, especially if they didn't call you back after you left trying to give you more to come back.
