Anyone change mid pipe only

I'm thinking about changing to a mid pipe like the one manufactured by maddad until I have a chance to see/hear some full exhaust options in person. Anyone else or opinions?

I was thinking about doing the same thing. Or changing the midpipe and downpipe when a stage 2 tune comes along. How different will the exhaust note sound??

Search for Berk and there is some discussion about just changing the mid pipe.

With stock muffler? How does it sounds compared to the full stock system?

The 135 and 1M sound quite different IMO with the stock muffler and mid pipes. I'll try to get videos or something of it and a full review.

Midpipe is header to muffler right? I'm wondering how you guys are getting by without the cats? Are you just changing back to factory setup for inspection or will the engine still pass without the cat installed?

Down here we have to get the car inspected every year and they have these sniffer truck things that supposedly test cars driving down the road. I know its a big fine if you get caught w/o

No inspection here in FL - also you will only be removing the secondary cats - here is more info and pictures

It is not from the turbo manifold, from the turbo manifold there are the downpipes which have cats in them. Then there are the midpipes which have a secondary set of cats, then the rear muffler. With the midpipes you still have the cats in the downpipes.

Also with ODB2 cars, if you have even removed all the cats, if you have a tune that is designed for it, and does not throw a CEL, you can often pass.

I have my MadDad neatly tucked away, off my 135i, and awaiting PCD of the 1///M later this month. Will prolly be one of the first mods I do so will post a vid once done. May have to go to dealer first though as I do have noticeable drone on my stock setup, so we can address that first.

I read that. I would not mind to keep the rear muffler and just change the midsection (remove secondary cats). Down pipe is a no-go for me.

I didn't know that the N55 midpipe was an option, so please tell me more.

Resonated? Catless? Simple bolt-on w/o modification? Cost?

Thanks!

N55 midpipe is a direct bolt-on. It has a resonator, and it removes the secondary cats.

Here's a good picture of the N55 midpipe.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=592815

Dealer lists the midpipe at $450 i think...(p/n:18 30 7 599 743)

My local dealer doesnt have one instock and he mentioned there's none in the country, and have to get it from Germany (2 weeks wait). I also checked a few local junkyards and none have a wrecked N55 135.

Just checked that part number at getbmwparts.com (Tischer's online parts operation), and they list it for $337.80!

I had straight (mid)pipes on my 135... secondary cat and resonator delete. Not sure id maddad had a resonator in there. I plan on trying that set up with the stock axle back.

It wont be a straight bolt on though since my mids are 2 separate pipes.
