Anyone had their HPFP replaced twice?

The long cranks have returned and I had a 881 serial number pump installed last time. I know people on e90post had gone through multiple pumps but not sure if anyone with a one series has. I believe its matter of time before this goes as well.

Update: Jeremy, I took your well written letter and opened an online petition asking BMW to resolve the fuel pump problem with a permanent solution that is satisfactory to our concerns.

Here's the link to the petition:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/fixpump/petition.html

Any current BMW owners with the N54 engine or potential BMW owners who are concerned about the the fuel pump problem on the N54 engine are encourage to sign the petition to inform BMW the importance of this issue.

I just turned 20k miles on my 2008... dropped my car off for service this morning (long crank times) and I just got a call that the car is ready, with a new HPFP installed.

So, 1 HPFP down, who knows how many more to go!

Josh, it doesn't bother you what would happen after warranty or you aren't keeping the car around that long

Well at the warranty on the hpfp has been extended to 10 years/120k miles.
Maybe we'll just get a new fuel pump with every oil change!

Well what exactly am I supposed to do besides hope they'll get the HPFP right before my warranty runs out?
If anybody's got a proactive idea on what I ought to do about this, I'm all ears.

Is there an aftermarket solution for the HPFP? This was also an issue with the GTI from 06-08. They must use the same supplier... pathetic.

Is this an infant mortality issue? Seems like a lot of people have them fail before 10k miles. I wonder if you make it to 15k or 20k, you are in the clear.

Like I said, the HPFP warranty has been extended beyond the general warranty. You're covered up through 10 years / 120k miles on the HPFP.

Mine failed at 1700 miles lol

So how bad is "limp mode"? If I am in the middle of a 6 hr drive and the pump goes, can I keep going? Or is it just enough to get off at the nearest exit?

I've had mine replaced twice and am starting to get symptoms again on an '09. And they have not extended the warranty on the pump for the '09s.

You can keep going in limp mode....I drove it about 30 miles to the dealer like this. It's not fun though, and you have to be REALLY careful if you're merging or trying to get out in front of traffic. You have virtually no power.

I just got my fourth! The new version failed at 27K, it did take longer to fail I had the first one replaced with a reman HPFP, that one was replaced with the new version, and now I have another one! I really don't like to be the one with the most on this thread! I still love the car, and this has been my only issue.

I think a more important question is how many people having bought the 135i and suffered one or more HPFP failures now regret buying the car even with the extended warranty? If you can live with the need for replacement or the possibility in the extreme case that you might break down every couple thousand miles does it bother you?

I don't have a 135i but if I did I'm not sure how I'd answer that...
One large glaring fault on an otherwise beautiful car.
