I just got a call from an east coast dealer wanting to take my ED order at invoice pricing.

He didnt seem to have an issue with allocation or ED pricing, but I already have my order with a local dealership.

My CA said ED can be confirmed at 6 months prior to pick up date, so I should have a production number in march.

Yes, I have a production number. When I talked to my CA he said he didn't understand what the big deal was. I guess it was no problem at all for him to get me my allocation.
Do you know for certain that two are from AZ, both with Production Numbers?

I bought from a Phoenix dealer, March production. He bought from a Tucson dealer, projected April production.

Who's he? I don't think April allocations have been given out yet.

This is the issue, the first allocations are for March production not April or October as some have claimed.

According to the BMW Rep only numbers for March have been allotted at this point. No way has BMW allotted cars out to October at this point.

Easy big fella. Perhaps that is why he doesn't have his prod number yet? He is on this forum, maybe as he gets more info he will provide it.

But, Gabe on Bimmerfile states that he has a September production. Some how his dealership knows that.

Sorry guys, but unless you have a production number from BMW you don't have an allotted car. It's just that simple.

Anyone can claim on this forum that they have a September or October car or have secured an ED discount for next Christmas but unless you have a production number and later a VIN number you don't have the car.

I just heard from my CA. They're not a huge dealership, but they move a ton of ///Ms... they are getting 1 allocation for the year, and it ain't mine.

What a total & complete cluster-f.

According to yesterday's article at BMW Blog, the head of BMW NA says dealers will (potentially) get new allocations each month, based on production, demand, capacity, etc.

I have a hard time believing any single dealer knows how many they will get over the course of the entire year.

So if they state we are getting "X" allocated (insert fave number here), they are...misrepresenting?

No, just that it is subject to change.

I see. So per the BMW blanket statement, it may go up or down depending on production and the dealer is in actuality really beging frank and gshowing you the hand he has currently been dealt?

But one thing I don't get is, allocations are generally for what: 30/60 days ahead? So how can they make a statement that they know what they have been allocated for the rest of 2011?

No it's just that they don't get a years worth of allocation at once. Especially with the 1M it will be Month to Month, not sometime in the future or a total for the year.

So I guess you can say Yes

I wish that I has the information to answer that. All that I know is that two weeks ago my CA told me that his dealership was getting 3 allocations, he didn't specify over what period of time. My CA has always been honest with me, so that info had to have come from some where. The assumption has become that it will be a flexible allocation and BMW will adjust it month-to-month based upon demand and the orders in the order bank.

OK, just wanted to confirm, because there are definitely dealers out there saying: "I am getting only 2 for the entire yr". It seems they can't possibly know that because their prescribed allocations simply don't go out that far, right?

EDIT: sorry, was typing as you guys were responding

At best, this wishy-washy variable allocation is confusing the hell out of people, customers & dealers alike.

At worst, 1Ms really will be this scarce, and they've managed to piss off many enthusiasts who've been eagerly following the development of this car, and who've had futile deposits in place for weeks or months.

If anyone from BMW or BMWNA is following this, some clarification on the allocation process & availability is in order immediately.

And my point again: how do they know that when their allocation schedule doesn't go out that far? Speculation? Or is 1///M really that different that dealers are told here is what you are getting through all of 2011???

cracka is right, someone from BMW/NA needs to clarify how this actually works
