That is a good question. 245/35 would be perfect but r1s are not available in that size. You are absolutly right, 245/40 is too tall for the front. I had serious rubbing issues when i tested them for the first time. So i had to trim good amount of fender cover with dremel , remove one mounting screw that attaches fender to the bumper cover, roll fenders very aggressively to the point that they look flared, not just rolled and i have almost -3 camber up front. After all that i have no more rubbing issues and the car feels great .

^^ Thanks. That is some serious rubber. I'm saving this for proof that it can be done and what it takes.

255/35's would clear up front without any issues if you run enough camber. We run this size tire in Yokohama AD08's(which run wide) for our 135i.

everyone, keep in mind this^ means camber from a camber plate. camber from m3 links doesn't improve front tire/fender clearance.

Can you fit a larger tire on a stock height car with camber plates than on a lowered car with camber plates?

i hear people talk about rubbing but they do not mention which area of the tire is rubbing

Mostly where the front fender meets the bumper.

Yes, you can get away with wider tires at stock height.
