does the carbon spoiler make a difference?
I find myself driving 100 plus daily and was wondering if anyone that has put the larger than stock carbonfiber spoiler has noticed a performance increase?

pretty sure its mainly cosmetic, i purchased over Xmas but waiting till after winter to install... not to sure how much extra downforce it would really generate.

I had mine installed before delivery, and I got it simply as a cosmetic modification. I doubt very much that this tiny little thing produces enough downforce to make a difference. Especially since the BMW Performance website describes it as a "enhancing the sporting appearance" or some such nonsense.

Which carbon spoiler were you referring to? If you are really looking for down force then a GT wing will be needed to offer any kind of stability and grip.

You would have to be going 200 mph for that spoiler to produce any useful downforce.

Hell yeah it does! I take corners 10-20mph faster than I did without it! It got chipped in an accident though so I may have lost a little Cd,

If somebody has numbers such as the angle the spoiler is at in relation to the horizontal, surface area and and width of the spoiler I can run the numbers and give you a reasonable answer.
I knew that going to uni for aero engineering would pay off some day |

Do it do it.....sounds like a fun little exercise. Even without exact measurements....from a picture I am sure you can make some assumptions with which to calculate. Go for it.....Curious here! |

I can guarantee you will see no useful downforce with that wing. Besides the flow across the rear trunk is not fully developed turbulent flow, so any hand calculation will be grossly overestimated.
Not trying to rain on the parade, I do these sorts of calculations on a daily basis for the gas turbine industry. Take my opinion for whats it worth.
