Rattles

Does anyone else's 1M/135/128 rattle in the winter?
Every bump I hit, a rattle seems to come from the rear suspension. I've checked for loose items, including under the trunk floor, but nothing obvious. I'm going to take a test drive with all the trunk items removed and see if there is a difference. If no difference, and no similar complaints, I'll have to make a trip to the dealer. I suspect some bushings or something are frozen. Going to have to go anyway, as I think they effed up the break-in fluids.

I hear it also in my rear suspension don't know from where exactly but I'm guessing it could be exhaust or smthng when it's warm outside everything goes back to normal.

Same thing here in the cold. A distinct rattle from the rear axle. I assume that it's the different thermal expansion of the various materials. Checked my axle too and couldn't find anything. I'll have my shop check my car when it's there the next time and then simply wait for warmer temperatures. If it doesn't go away then, they'll have to start digging.

I have Motons and it's quiet. Perhaps it's the stock shocks? Try opening the trunk and sitting on the trunk opening to put pressure on the rear end. Try to make it bounce up and down. Just a guess....

Same here. I have a vert, and it's the only rattle I have. Seems to have gotten louder lately - maybe it's because of the colder weather. Nice to know I'm not alone.

Hi guys

I had a 135 previously and had the same problem. My girfriend who had a 328 experienced the same rattles. When it was cold, the rear bushing used to crack.

I brought it to the dealer and they knew right away what was the problem. They fix it and everything was fine after

I have also heard this on colder days. We dont drive it in the winter but fall and spring it was doing it. Also dash creaks and noises.
Do you know which rear bushings they new were issues that solved your issue?

I seem to get a sort of ticking sound from the Nav cowling (or near it) sometimes. It's sorta annoying until I turn the radio up.

If you hear it when engine cold and/or at idle, likely wastegate rattle.

Annoying, but nothing to really worry about.

I noticed a rattle in my center console this morning on some bumps, rest my arm on it and it stops. Gotta start trying to figure out what exactly is rattling in it, it's annoying!

My dash "rattle" is predominantly coming from the NAV area and sounds like a sheet of celophane being wrinked, sort of crinkly sounding!?!?!

The other noises I had were coming from the center console around the USB socket, rear view mirror housing (rain sensor?) and somewhere over the passenger side.

They were driving me crazy so they replaced the whole dash.
Was OK for a while but they seem to be coming back.

So you took yours in to BMW and they replaced the whole dash? What did you say to them to get them to replace it? Did they fix the center console?

Interesting these experiences. I am very noise and rattle sensitive type and I can get annoyed easily but I feel like the 1M is the most rattle free car I have ever driven, everything feels very tight and solid. Only on cobble stone and real broken surface there is a shake but even there it is better than most other cars despite stiffer suspension it has. Maybe most of these noises and rattles are really all about the cold weather you guys have in the Northern Hemisphere.

Yes its rattle in the console or somewhere... Don't seem to be well damped/fit. If someone finds the source of the rattle in the cabin/instrument panel please report so we can let BMW fix it under warranty. Not ok to have rattle in a premium car even at winter...

I cannot hear anything from the exhaust or back of the car though.

I drive on 235 and 255 spiked winter tires. Means any bad fitted things will rattle.

Well they weren't intending to replace it but they damaged the original one whilst they were putting in back in. Had to get a new one from Germany!

I must admit to being very noise sensative too. Must have something wrong with my hearing as a colleague couldn't hear anything when he was in the car with me.

Oddly enough I struggle to hear conversations across a dinner table.

Hopefully cold weather issue. But I agree that cold weather is not an excuse. I'm just used to every car I drive sounding the same when it is cold.

Maybe you are more interested in driving than a dinner conversation Gates of perception open differently every time.

When I was a kid I used to hear nothing my parents say or do when I was busy reading or so in my room, my father took me to a hearing clinic just to learn that I was fine, physically speaking! Years after it started all over again when I get married, mysterious just mysterious.
